The D.C. United striker receives a two-game suspension from MLS Disciplinary Committee.

This hasn’t been an ordinary week for D.C. United’s striker Eddie Johnson. D.C. didn’t have the best performance last Saturday against Real Salt Lake as they ended up losing 3-0. In the heat of the match, Johnson deliberately hit the ball at RSL’s defender Carlos Salcedo, getting away with a yellow card only.

After the match, diverse reactions from the fans followed, especially towards the 30-year-old striker. The United’s fan base was upset against Eddie, blaming and abusing him for his poor performance and lack of goals via Twitter. Johnson didn’t leave that on the side and replied to some fans in a not-so-polite way.

On Monday, Eddie apologized via Twitter for the incidents that happened during the weekend and on Tuesday he stated the following:

“After games, especially after two losses for us where we had so much to gain as far as team goals and being in the race for the Supporters’ Shield, dropping three points against Houston and dropping three points against Salt Lake, a lot of emotions are going on and sometimes you don’t think before you react”.

On Wednesday, the MLS Disciplinary Committee announced a disciplinary action against him, suspending him for two matches and fining him for an undisclosed amount for violent conduct. This means that Eddie will miss the next home game against Colorado Rapids and the away game at Kansas City.
