The Spanish goalkeeper will be plying his trade in Serie A this season after Real Madrid opted not to keep him on board.

With the arrival of Costa Rican star Keylor Navas, the sentiment was always that one of Real Madrid's goalkeepers would probably leave this summer.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Milan were closely monitoring the situation of Diego Lopez as the Rossoneri sought to find another experienced man between the post to provide another option besides Christian Abbiati, youngster Gabriel, and Marco Agazzi, whom they got on a free this summer.

And now, despite the 32-year-old Spaniard dislodging Iker Casillas for much of the past two seasons, he's the one on his way out, regardless of apparently informing the club directors of his displeasure at being forced to leave.

According to reports, the former Valencia and Sevilla man will depart for Milan on a free transfer--as Real Madrid decided to pay the remaining €12 million left on his contract in order to expedite his departure from the capital club.

Lopez will undergo a medical soon before putting pen to paper on a contract that will tie him with the Diavolo that will see him earn a reported €2.5 million per year for four years.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani also confirmed the agreement, stating: "The deal to bring Diego Lopez to Milan is 99% done."
