After rejecting lower bids from Porto and Wolfsburg, Club America would have agreed to transfer Raul Jimenez to Spanish champion Atletico de Madrid.

With the Mexican Apertura tournament already on the move, the Mexican attacker is on the verge of fulfilling his European dream after Atletico offered 15 million euros for his services, according to reports. With only details to resolve, Club America will have to speed up his replacement, since they saw Raul as a cornerstone in their project for this recently started league.

Negotiations between the two sides reached their peak last week, when America and Atletico played in Azteca Stadium as part of the Spanish champion’s preseason. The Mexican team won that match on penalty kicks, having Jimenez as one of the scorers.

Jimenez arrives to Atletico with a gold medal and a championship under his belt, being recognized as one of Mexico’s hottest prospects. Raul had some playing time in the last World Cup, and will try to emulate the antics of former Mexican strikers Hugo Sánchez and Luis García, who played for the red and white squad many years ago.

With Jimenez on board, Atletico de Madrid coach Diego Simeone would only be looking for a midfielder to complete his squad, aiming to a new La Liga title.
