It seems Romelu Lukaku has never been one of Jose Mourinho’s favourite players. The Belgian star is set to complete a £25M transfer from Chelsea to Everton.

This summer has been great for Lukaku. His super-sub performance in Belgium’s extra-time victory over USA in the Last 16 of the World Cup got him showered with praises from fans and pundits. However, Mourinho’s purchase of Diego Costa and the sensational return of club icon Didier Drogba made very little space for Lukaku who has spent two seasons on loan to West Bromwich Albion and Everton since signing for the Blues in 2011.

Last season, under Roberto Martinez, the 21-year-old loaned forward managed to net 16 goals in 33 appearances. Explaining how Lukaku turned into the fans’ favourite and how important he will be for Everton during his five-year contract, Roberto Martinez was quoted as saying by talkSPORT last week:

“Rom fits in really, really well at Goodison. We created a fantastic bond with the player, and the player with the fans, and that is something that we would love to extend.”
