Just days from the vital clash against the United States, Belgium keep losing important defenders.

The Belgians seem to not be able to catch a break during this World Cup. First, they lost Kevin De Bruyne due to injury. Then, both centre-backs, Vincent Kompany, and Thomas Vermaelen got injured. Now, also their right-back, Anthony Vanden Borre is out.

Belgium now need to come up with some sort of plan B, as their defensive line gets smaller, just days ahead of the clash with the United States, for a chance to progress in this unpredictable World Cup.

Vincent Kompany is a warrior and is expected to make at least a partial recovery for the game against the United States

Vincent Kompany, who missed the game against Korea on Thursday, is still doubtful for the coming game against Klinsmann’s boys. In addition to that, Vanden Borre will be out for at least 6 weeks, after a scan revealed a crack in his fibula. Vanden Borre’s replacement, Laurent Ciman, is also out due to injury.

Vertonghen comes in for Vermaelen who is forced to leave due to injury

Lucky for Wilmots, he can count on a very versatile Vertonghen, who can play both as a left-back and a centre-back. The Belgian coach may have to go with three in the back due to the unavailability of full-backs.

Vanden Borre suffered a serious injury in the game against the Korea Republic

Marc Wilmots has until Tuesday to get Kompany and Vermaelen back. Although the United States were dealing with injuries of their own, losing Altidore just 20 minutes into the World Cup, the Americans remain a very dangerous team to play.

Wilmots will hope for a quick recovery by his team-captain, Vincent Kompany
