A Group C fixture will feature Japan and Colombia as the two sides battle it out at the Arena Pantanal on Tuesday, the 24th of June.

Japan will have to win their match against Colombia and will need a favor from Greece if they are to make it to the next round of the tournament. The Samurai Blue endured a frustrating outing against Greece which ended in a 0-0 draw despite of their opponents being a man down.

Japan’s tactics of exploiting the wings and delivering crosses into the box did not work out for Alberto Zaccheroni's side owing to the physical difference between the two sides and despite being the much better side, Japan were unable to break the deadlock.

Manchester United star Shinji Kagawa was demoted to the bench following a poor showing against Ivory Coast. However the former Dortmund man showed moments of brilliance after being brought on as a substitute and is likely to start in the crucial encounter against Colombia.

Keisuke Honda who picked up the man of the match award in the match against Greece appeared in a pessimistic mood after the match and claimed that Japan had blown their chances of qualifying to the next round after failing to register any goal.

"We knew that we needed to win two games," Honda said.

"So, it's disappointing that we couldn't get the ball into the goal."

"The result is everything, so regardless of the attacking performance it is disappointing we couldn't get three points. “

"Greece played knowing that with a draw and a win in the next game they can go through, and we got caught up in that. We have to fight until the end and not give up."

Japan’s 32 year old forward Yoshito Okubo voiced a similar opinion and apologized to the fans for not being able to record a victory despite of having more possession during the game.

"It's a disappointing result and I apologise to the fans," he sighed.

"We had a lot of chances and we could have won if we'd scored one of those. We had a lot of possession in Greece's half, so we just have to work harder at putting the ball in the back of the net."

Colombia on the other hand have been very impressive so far after registering victories in both their opening matches. The South American side registered a 3-0 victory over Greece in their opening match and followed it up with a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast last time around.

James Rodriguez scored in both the matches and has been Colombia’s star man so far. The AS Monaco man has been at the centre of everything good for Colombia and has now scored in each of his last four matches for the national side. If Colombia reach the next round it will only be the first time they manage to do so so since 1990.

With their place in the Round of 16 confirmed, Colombia are likely to rest a number of first team players which means that both Jackson Martinez and Fredy Guarin might be handed a starting berth in the match against Japan. Mario Yepes and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado on the other hand might be given a rest for Colombia’s last match of the group stage.

Japan have no new injury concerns but are likely to welcome Shinji Kagawa back into the starting lineup.
