A crucial Group A fixture will feature Croatia and Mexico as the two teams fight one another for qualification to the next round of the tournament.

A win for either side will confirm their qualification to the Round of 16 of the competition. Croatia lost to Brazil in the tournament’s opening fixture but subsequently won against Cameroon by a 4-0 score line thereby boosting their chances of qualifying to the next round.

The side benefited from the return of Bayern Munich hitman Mario Mandzukic who scored twice upon his return to the side and the 28 year old praised manager Kovac's tactics on the day.

"We did everything possible. We have trained hard and done what the coach wanted us to do," he said.

"He wanted an early goal and at half-time he told us to finish the game as soon as possible."

Mandzukic could have registered a hat-trick for himself after missing a one-on-one with Cameroon goalkeeper Charles Itandje but insisted that his main focus was to help his team.

"It was a long run, I was tired and lost focus," he added. "But never mind, I never play to score but to help my team. My goals come as a reward.

"We have shown we have power, now we go into battle with Mexico."

Despite a powerful performance against Cameroon, their task against Mexico will be far from easy. Miguel Herrera`s side will definitely be in a buoyant mood following their heroics against Brazil, especially goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa who pulled off a string of brilliant saves to ensure the scores remained leveled at 0-0.

Prior to their match against Brazil, Mexico recorded a 1-0 victory over Cameroon courtesy of a goal from Oribe Peralta, this means that should Mexico manage at least a draw against Croatia, they will be guaranteed a place in the Round of 16.

Croatia head coach Niko Kovač highlighted the importance of the match labeling it a final. He praised the opposition but also claimed that his team will be up to the task.

"The match against Mexico will be like a final," Kovac said.

"Mexico are strong, but so are we."

"The Mexico players are very patriotic, just like us, and they have a great team spirit."

"They play some aggressive football with a lot of pressing.

"They are strong going forward, but also have some weaknesses in defence, like Brazil showed us."

Mexico are second in group B, on level points with Brazil, however according to manager Miguel Herrera, El Tricolor will be aiming for maximum points on Sunday in their quest to finish top of group A.

"We`re in the group and battling it out for a place (in the next round) even with Brazil," said Herrera.

"We`ve still got another group game to play and, like always, we`ll be going all out for the win."

"I told the lads that they did an excellent job (against Brazil), but we`ve still got to give everything to try and qualify."
