After his abysmal performance in the Netherlands loss, many have been wondering whether Iker Casillas should be dropped, but former boss Jose Mourinho warns Spain against that

Spain's World Cup campaign started off with a bang but for all the wrong reasons.

The defending champions went through a nightmare 90 minutes after they were thrashed by Louis van Gaal's Netherlands side 5-1.

One man in particular was singled out in this historical loss; La Roja captain and most-capped player Iker Casillas.

The Real Madrid shot-stopper was at fault for the Dutch national team's opening goal after coming far off of his line and made another error after a goalkeeping blunder allowed Red Devils striker Robin van Persie to net the fourth goal of the night.

But now, the former manager of Iker Casillas, ex-Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho has come to the 33-year-old's defense, saying FIFA's world number one ranked side would be wrong to drop their experience skipper.

"I wouldn't put Iker on the bench," Mourinho stated.

"The position of goalkeeper is a very specific one, and I'm not one for changing it just because of a bad game. I only change things because of form, which shows the keeper isn't in the right condition, doesn't have confidence, stability, giving off the feeling it is better to change."

Jose continued on to say: "Casillas has done great things with Spain, he's a keeper who needs the confidence of his coach, and one bad game, for me, isn't sufficient enough a reason to change a goalkeeper."
