A Ribery-less French side will kick start their World Cup campaign as they square off against Honduras at the Estádio Beira-Rio on Sunday, the 15th of June.

Despite losing out probably their best player in Franck Ribery who has been ruled out of the World Cup, Les Bleus have been in ravishing form recently and will be looking to make the most out of it. After a nail biting play-off encounter with Ukraine which saw France stage an incredible comeback winning the second leg by a 3-0 score line, Didier Deschamps’ men have won three of their last four World Cup preparation matches.

After defeating Holland 2-0, Les Tricolores gave Norway a mauling as they scored a 4-0 victory over their counterparts. What followed was a dull outing against Paraguay but France were quick to make up for it, following it up with an incredible 8-0 thrashing of Jamaica.

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is one of the players who is in top form. Despite faring well in recent games the 27 year old is not guaranteed a place in the starting lineup but has claimed that it is something which does not worry him much.

"Yes it would be kind of a disappointment [to not start against Honduras] because I think I did well during the preparation games," he said. "But there is a coach and we have to respect his choices.

"Anyway, it's not going to be my main concern and it won't trouble my sleep.”

Giroud further claimed that playing in the Premier League has enhanced his capabilities to adjust to the physical nature of the game, which is something which could bode well for France given the fact that Honduras players will not be afraid to use their physical strength in order to prevent Les Bleus from playing their natural game.

"The important thing is to prepare well for this first game and be available for the team and the coach."
"It's true that I like the physical part of the game," he continued. "I won't shy away from that.

"I was able to confront myself with the tough defence from England and it's an asset for me to have this kind of opponents every weekend, and I hope to use it against Honduras because they will give everything.

"I already played against [Honduras and Hull City] Maynor Figueroa. He's not an 'angel' on the pitch, he's quite tough, but it's fine.

"I like it and we all expect a pretty tough game physically, so we'll be ready to answer. I'm not afraid of anyone."

Deschamps might be regretting not selecting Samir Nasri for his squad which travelled to Brazil following an injury to their main man Ribery. However the presence of creative players including the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Mathieu Valbuena and Paul Pogba is reassuring and France definitely do have enough firepower in their squad to deal with the absence of their star player.

Honduras on the other hand lost two of their last three World Cup preparation matches against Turkey and Israel. However Los Catrachos performed admirably in their last match when a 10 men Honduras side was able to prevent England from scoring as the match ended in a stalemate.

Honduras will be without Rangers star Arnold Peralta who has been ruled out due to a thigh injury. Manager Luis Fernando Suarez is set to use a 4-4-2 formation with Carlo Costly and Jerry Bengtson likely to lead the line.

Losing to France will be far from disappointing for a Honduras side which has done its nation proud after making a second consecutive World Cup appearance and their third in total.

France who have performed well in their recent outings and lost only once during the World Cup Qualifiers will be a very tough team to beat. Honduras on the other hand will be looking for only their first victory in a World Cup match having not managed to make an impression in their prior World Cup games
