Les Bleus, sans Franck Ribery, take on Jamaica in their last friendly before commencing their World Cup campaign.

Next week Sunday, France will attempt to fully put their disasterous 2010 World Cup campaign behind them as they take on Honduras in their first group stage match. On paper, it looks like it should be a straight-forward win for Les Bleus, but they will certainly be concerned about the recent news concerning one of their key players ahead of their last friendly with Jamaica.

Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery, who has been battling with a long-term back issue, will unfortunately play no part in his national side's quest to win their first World Cup title since 1998. This, of course, will be a huge blow to the player, who recently admitted that this would his last tournament as well as, naturally, for his team, who were heavily reliant on the Ballon d'Or nominee to inject some much needed attacking flair.

Nonetheless, the squad will have to move on from any feelings of disappointment to contend with their opponents this evening. In addition to the aforementioned die Roten star, they will also be missing young midfielder Clement Grenier due to a serious muscular injury of his own.

Moving on to their opponents, this match, at least on the surface, appears to be highly in favour of France, despite missing some key personnel. Yet, although Jamaica were unable to secure a spot at the World Cup--in fact the last and only time the Reggae Boyz featured was in 1998--they will hope to at least provide France with a bit of a test.

So far, the Carribean nation have won two, lost two, and drawn one of their friendlies in 2014, but interestingly, only lost to fellow World Cup contender Switzerland by just one goal.

All in all, with Ribery confirmed as a no-go for the upcoming tournament, this will give an opportunity for some other players to shine and make their case as manager Didier Deschamps looks to wrap things up before heading to Brazil.
