Twitter’s football sphere experienced shockwaves on Tuesday as Radamel Falcao’s dream of participating at the 2014 FIFA World Cup effectively ended.
Reacting to his exclusion, Falcao’s former coach, Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, tweeted a photo of the pair celebrating the 2012 UEFA Europa League final triumph, stating that “the most important thing is yoru recovery as a professional. Football needs your talent and passion. Hugs.”
The AS Monaco striker also tweeted a picture of himself looking all smile, and captioned it with:
“Hoy solo puedo sonreír por haberlo intentado hasta el final,” meaning “today I can only smile for trying until the end”.
So Colombia’s preparations to feature in Brazil 2014 without El Tigre truly begin against Jordan. The team will be expected to crush Jordan just like Uruguay did in the World Cup qualifying playoffs. Obligations to pick up a win are even higher following last week’s 2-2 draw against non-World Cup participants Senegal.
Los Cafeteros were leading 2-0 with goals by T. Gutierrez and Bacca but they threw away their lead within the next seven minutes of doubling their lead. Konate and Ndoye left Pekerman and his Colombian defence struggling with a headache at the end of the day.
