Preview: Dortmund aiming to overcome further injuries
Jürgen Klopp rightly bemoaned his side’s luck this week, though in a rather sarcastic manner. The comment was perhaps slightly insensitive towards Saarbrücken but served as a reminder of Dortmund’s problems after the Mainz game:
"We are so nice that we injure ourselves down to Saarbrücken's level."
For the first time in his time as a Dortmund manager, Klopp made three substitutions prior to half-time in the Bundesliga. Nuri Sahin came in for Sven Bender when Dortmund was struggling to live up to Mainz’s pressing during the weekend. Jakub Blaszczykowski went off due to muscular problems at half-time and on captain Sebastian Kehl. Marco Reus, who is currently struggling to be fit for the Saarbrücken match, went off for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Preview: Neymar and Tata Martino are out for the perfect debut
After last season's beat down at the hand of Bayern Munich, Barcelona will want to get their 2013/14 UEFA Champions League campaign off to a good start. Up steps an Ajax side that was placed in one of the toughest groups last season, and the draw for this season was not all that nice to them either.
In Group H, Barcelona and Ajax will have to lock horns with AC Milan and Celtic, which could make for a very entertaining group.
Preview: Russians poised to bounce back
As things stand in Group F, Russia are second with 12 points – one above Israel and two behind current leaders Portugal. However, the Russians have played a couple games less than the Euro 2012 semi-finalists. Grabbing maximum points from their two fixtures in hand would shoot them four points clear above the Portuguese.
Psychologically, Russia are fired up to bounce back from last time’s loss to Portugal. After failing to reach the 2010 FIFA World Cup and suffering a surprise group stage exit at the 2012 European Championship, Fabio Capello and his men have their eyes firmly set on reaching Brazil 2014. On paper, Russia have too much potential to allow themselves to drop further points tonight.
In contrast, Northern Ireland have not managed to win a single match in Group F. Their chances of turning the tables around tonight are slim as they occupy the fifth place in the six-team table. To make things more difficult for the hosts, Palermo’s Lafferty has been ruled out due to an Achilles injury. The Italian-based player is one of many key absentees on both sides.
Supporters of Israel’s national team and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal will be on their toes tonight. They will be hoping for an upset of the Russians by Northern Ireland.
How possible is that?

Thirteen hosts cities across the United States welcome football fever this July. The CONCACAF Gold Cup is now the main attraction of every American soccer fan as the USMNT is favourite to claim the title.
The 2013 Gold Cup was initially composed of 12 teams placed in three tables. Group A had Mexico and also contained the likes of World Cup 2014 surprise prospects Panama. USA’s foes, Canada, completed this section with minnows Martinique. Both crashed out in the first round.
In Group B, Honduras were given a tough challenge to reaffirm their lost authority in the CONCACAF zone. Los Catrachos faced El Salvador, World Cup 2006 participants Trinidad and Tobago and tiny country Haiti.
Finally, Group C was composed of the hosts together with bitter political rivals Cuba. Costa Rica entered the competition as potential quarter-finalists but Belize failed to spring an upset in this four-team table. Each group winners and runners-up automatically reached the Last 8 and were joined by two of the three third-placed nations.
Since the Confederations Cup is over, the passion of CONCACAF football followers has hit a higher level. There is no way one can miss any of the action; you can watch absolutely all Gold Cup 2013 matches between July 7 and July 28. Bookmark this page and visit it regularly as LiveSoccerTV.com offers you important online and TV schedule updates throughout the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Preview: Americans favourites to pass the test
CONCACAF Gold Cup viewers witnessed eight goals on Saturday as Panama trounced Cuba 6-1 before Mexico ousted Trinidad and Tobago with the narrowest of margins. This Sunday, the Last 8 action continues with hosts USA up against El Salvador.
The United States are widely viewed as favourites to claim the cup but if they are to do so, they must avoid an upset tonight. Chris Wondolowski is in a fierce competition with Panama’s Gabriel Torres. They have each notched five goals – which totals to almost 10 per cent of all the goals scored during the Gold Cup 2013 so far.
Since 1985 when it finished in fourth place, La Selecta has not managed to go past the quarter-finals of the tournament. This is a good omen for the USMNT who crashed out in the Last 8 only once; that was in 2000.

Preview: A difficult test for champions El Tri
Trinidad and Tobago are not to be looked at as minnows. The 2006 World Cup participants have taken the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup very seriously with Kenwyne Jones leading their attack. The latter has already scored a couple of goals – the last of which inspired his side to an upset of Group B winners Honduras.
Monday’s 2-0 victory over Los Catrachos was crucial. The Trinidadians needed those three points at all cost. It was their only option to qualify for the quarter-finals. Fresh from that huge feat, they must tackle a new challenge in the form of Mexico.
El Tri come into this fixture as favourites but manager De la Torre expects a difficult battle for his young squad. He was talking to the press when he stated:
“We know it's not going to be an easy game. Trinidad has grown with the quality of its players. The way they've been playing – their skillset, their strength and their height – makes it a challenge.
“We are confident in what we offer and what we have improved upon in this tournament. We know it will be a good test for us to show our improvements.”
Indeed, the Mexicans can be proud of their achievements so far. They started on the wrong foot with a 2-0 loss to Panama in Group A. However, they took advantage of Canada on Matchday 2 before hurting the daring hopes of minnows Martinique with a 3-1 triumph in Denver on July 14.
Tonight, the CONCACAF Gold Cup titleholders will know if they still have a chance of defending their crown in the United States of America.

Preview: Los Catrachos to suffer an upset?
The Haitians - who only lost 2-1 to Spain in a friendly game earlier this summer - might be boosted by the heroics of Martinique and Panama against Canada and Mexico respectively last Sunday. Likewise, Honduras might have learned a lot from yesterday’s upsets and they are expected to be prepared enough so as to avoid the Gold Cup 2013’s third giant-killing on the trot.
Los Catrachos clearly have the upper hand over their upcoming opponents. Both sides have met 15 times already with Les Grenadiers winning only four times and conceding 32 goals. They last clashed against each other almost exactly four years ago with Honduras claiming a 1-0 victory.
The public on Monday may be treated to a tight game and Haiti’s coach, Israel Blake Cantero, is not ruling out the possibility of creating a shock at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.
“Our goal is to qualify for the next phase,” Cantero revealed during a pre-match interview with the press.
“We know that Honduras has a great advantage over us but we are prepared us for this match. Of course, it will be difficult.
“We are hoping to make a good tournament as we focus on discipline and tactical operation. We have to play with character and seriousness.”

Preview: M. Fabian's El Tri eyeing a positive start
This Gold Cup fixture will open El Tri’s defence of their CONCACAF title. The good news for the Mexicans’ backline is that it will not need to contain Blas Perez at the Rose Bowl. The Panama striker has opted to miss this encounter for tonight’s big MLS clash between FC Dallas and LA Galaxy due to take place at the StubHub Center at 22:30 ET. Meanwhile, Mexico vs Panama kicks off at 20:00 ET.
Adding to Panama’s key absences are Godoy Cruz midfielder Armando Cooper and 32-year-old defender Felipe Baloy of Santos Laguna. El Tri’s manager, Jose Manuel de la Torre, is thus expected to live up to the challenge and snatch maximum points from his side’s Gold Cup opener.
Pressure is something the coach must deal with as pundits believe that this tournament presents a final chance to redeem his career. One of the home-grown stars who could lend a helping hand to De La Torre is attacker Marco Fabian. The London 2012 Olympics gold medallist told the press ahead of the Gold Cup:
“We understand clearly the great opportunity we have in front of us. We have to demonstrate our abilities. We have to demonstrate them to ourselves, the coaching staff and the rest of the country. It's an honor to be here.”
With the exclusion of European-based regulars, Mexico’s young squad cannot complain of lack of space to shine. The 2013 Gold Cup is an immense chance for the players involved to prove that they belong to the future of the national team.
The battle against Panama this Sunday is one they are keen on winning.
