On a day in which the focus will be on Schalke and Freiburg's battle as well as the contenders for relegation, Bremen will step out onto the pitch for the first time in 14 years without Thomas Schaaf.
The Big Games
The Bavarian derby to be played this week will be the most important one of the season. Bayern will not be involved in it. FC Augsburg will take on Greuther Fürth knowing that a win will see them qualify at least for…

The battle for fourth spot could be settled on the day in which the Bundesliga shield will be presented to the 50th champions.
Fates to be decided in Bavaria
Bayern and FC Nürnberg could both be holding the fates of two relegation battlers in their hands. Augsburg has done extremely well since the winter break but has recently wobbled. They lost 2-0 to SC Freiburg last week, thus remaining in sixteenth spot. This week, the task lying ahead of them is a mammoth one to…

Last week signaled the return of Klaas Jan Huntelaar to the Bundesliga and the Bundesliga to the top tier of Europe. This week, the European, relegation and pride battles will resume.
Matters of Pride
Bayern München will take on fellow Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund this week in a ‘preview’ of the showdown at Wembley. Neither side will field their strongest lineups after midweek exertions but everyone…
Separated by a mere two points, two giants of the German game will take on each other in a direct battle for fourth place.

Oka Nikolov stood firm in goal instead of yet another victim of injury, Kevin Trapp. Michel Bastos struck the penalty. The veteran saved. Frankfurt held on to a 1-0 victory. Last week, Schalke was presented with a golden chance to push ahead of their competitors in fourth as well as eliminate a direct rival in the competition. Instead, Schalke allowed Frankfurt into the race and opened up a five way competition for one Champions League qualifying spot.
One of the teams they allowed back into the hunt was Hamburger SV. Hamburg recorded a narrow 2-1 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf last week and now sits just two points behind Schalke. HSV is seemingly pushing above their weight as they rely on Rafael Van der Vaart to produce the goods in midfield heavily. Van der Vaart is one of the reasons that they are still in contention for a place in Europe’s premier club competition.

Greuther Fürth, the fairytale story of the 2.Bundesliga last season, could be set to go back down after just one season in the top flight this week.
The Big Games
German champions Bayern München welcomes Freiburg at home in a hugely important clash for the team from the Black Forest. Christian Streich’s team is slowly getting ripped apart as the excellence of his…

In a rather intriguing week for German football, Schalke will travel to Frankfurt while the second DFB Pokal semifinal will be repeated.
The Big Ones
Separated by four points from their Blue rivals, Eintracht Frankfurt will welcome Schalke. Eintracht’s rather weary squad went down to Ji Dong-Won and relegation battling Augsburg last week. This time, a Schalke side which earned a…

Despite Bayern being crowned champions last week, there are still a few important matters to sort out in the league.
The Battle for the European Spots
Freiburg and Hannover are separated by four points. Freiburg is primed to qualify for the Europa League as they sit in fifth spot in the league. Christian Streich’s side recorded a victory in Hamburg last week. Hannover away from home…

FC Bayern will be crowned this weekend regardless of other results if they manage to beat Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Big Ones
There are many big battles on this week, including one between Thomas Schaaf’s Bremen and lackadaisical Schalke. Schalke was anything but careless last week though as they beat Hoffenheim 3-0. The goals came late but the goal saw…
Two giants collide on Saturday in a game which could be of historic proportions.

FC Bayern München will look to become the first ever Bundesliga champions to be crowned in March when they take on Hamburger SV. However, as was so often the case last season, their fate lies in the hands of Borussia Dortmund at least until next week. Provided that Stuttgart manages to hold Dortmund or beat Dortmund, Bayern can win the title if they beat the dinosaurs of the Bundesliga.
Last season, it was Stuttgart who opened up the title race by holding the reigning champions to a 4-4 draw. Stuttgart has not lost to Dortmund in their three previous meetings. All three have ended in exciting draws. Bayern will come into this one with a wealth of options to choose from. Thomas Müller hopes that Bayern can avoid a possible last minute collapse unlike last season.

The Bundesliga’s Match-day 27 could see the crowning of an old, yet new, champion. During this weekend, the race for fourth place might just have to take a back seat.
The Big Ones
Borussia Dortmund has a great record against most rivals. In recent seasons, they have been able to bat away every domestic opponent rather easily. The only team to not have suffered a loss to Dortmund last season was VfB Stuttgart. Incidentally, during this huge week for German football, BVB travels to Stuttgart.
A 4-4 draw between these two teams was one of the highlights of the 2011-12 season. Another such draw or even another stalemate like this season’s meeting, could bring down the curtains on the title defence of the Ruhr side.

After a jaw dropping and disappointing European week, Bundesliga clubs return to action. Is the title really a lost cause?
The Big Ones
Bayern München takes on Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a clash which will not bring back the fondest memories for Bayern. Firstly, Leverkusen handed Bayern their first and only Bundesliga loss to date this season. In a match filled with rather…

The Champions Elect and the Surprise Package Elect
Two years of hurt are being put down the drain this season. Bayern is angrier than ever this season. Each performance is more magnificent than the previous one. The Bavarians official retook the title of the best club in Germany, at least for the time being, by defeating…

Bayern will aim to keep a huge gap between themselves and Borussia Dortmund when they take on crestfallen Schalke this weekend.
The Big Matches
Sacking Huub Stevens was supposed to be the answer to an upturn in fortunes for the Royal Blues. In truth, Schalke’s poor form at the end of the previous calendar year was perhaps down to weariness rather than poor management. Jens Keller has done a poor job so far; Schalke has been consistently poor aside from one…

The Bundesliga table has a slightly different look about it this week than it had last week. Bayern has increased their lead at the top; the difference between the second and third placed sides has decreased.
The Big Ones
Second takes on third in a battle for second place on Sunday in the final match of the weekend. Dortmund has looked fantastic since the resumption of the Bundesliga following the winter break. Leverkusen started off well but looked…

The Difference a Win Makes
Struggling Schalke last week beat out Hannover 96, 5-4. Lewis Holtby’s goal turned out to be the winner. Holtby is seemingly Spurs bound already as Chairman Daniel Levy has hinted that they require the Schalke man’s services immediately. They take…

The Bundesliga resumes this week with a Bavarian derby on the menu along with a high profile “top four” clash.
The Bavarian Derby
FC Bayern kick starts their half season against Bavarian strugglers Greuther Fürth. Bayern did little in terms of winter transfers during the break. They sent out young Mitchell Weiser on loan to Kaiserslautern and they signed…

We have arrived to the final match-day of the first half of the Bundesliga season. Plenty of exciting matches are on offer before the Bundesliga heads into its annual mini slumber.
The Big Ones
In a clash steeped in tradition, Bayern takes on Borussia Monchengladbach in the final competitive fixture of 2012 at the Allianz Arena. Bayern was at the receiving end of two defeats at the hand of these opponents last season. They did beat them however in a third meeting which took place in the DFB…
