1. FSV Mainz 05 vs 1. FC Kaiserslautern Match Preview

Kaiserslautern sits at the top of the table having collected six points from two matches. Mainz hasn’t done too badly either and sit third after collecting six points as well. In the last round of matches, they produced a comeback that only a team with a coach like Thomas Tuchel can; they beat Wolfsburg 4-3 after having gone three goals down.

This match, despite not being the most high profile one of the weekend, has the potential to provide a real thriller. Kaiserslautern mustered a 2-0 win against all odds against a star-studded Bayern side. However, Ivo Ilicevic, a brilliant player for them at the start of the season, will not be able to take part due to his red card against Bayern. Mainz is a very solid team and has flair as well due to the presence of players like Adam Szalai and Andre Schuerrle.

Mainz might just edge this one out due to Ilicevic’s absence.

1. FSV Mainz 05 vs 1. FC Kaiserslautern Match Report

Without one of their most important players on the pitch in Ivo Ilicevic, FCK finally dropped points this season. Mainz maintained a perfect record and picked up three points for a third week. Mainz was caught out by a fast FCK counter attack. FCK opened the scoring as Srdjan Lakic scored to end the counter-attack.

A long throw from Mainz caused mayhem in the FCK box and somehow, after a couple of rebounds fell to Lewis Holtby. The youngster, on loan from Schalke, passed the ball to Niko Bungert who scored the equalizer.

Another Lewis Holtby pass found Andre Schuerrle outside the box two minutes later. Schuerrle went close to the penalty area and shot from outside. His shot deflected off FCK right back Florian Dink and went into the back of the net.
