Feyenoord vs Heerenveen Match Preview
SC Heerenveen only won one of their 18 Eredivisie matches at Feyenoord, on 1 May 2005. Last season the home team won this encounter 6-2. By this rational Feyenoord would be the clear favorites to win on Sunday, but nothing is normal in ‘De Kuip’ this season.
Sc Heerenveen are on a good streak having won three of their last four League matches, but coach Ron Jans’ team got a Cup blow when they lost to NAC Breda on Wednesday.
A couple of Feyenoord players and coach Mario Been know Heerenveen well. As a footballer Been played at Heerenveen when the club was in the First Division in the 1991/1992 season. Injured Jon Dahl Tomasson and goal keeper Rob van Dijk also played for the club from Friesland.
Feyenoord vs Heerenveen Match Report
Feyenoord – sc Heerenveen started with a minute of silence to honor club icon Fred Blankemeijer, who died at the age of 84 this week. Blankemeijer played 28 matches for the club and remained with Feyenoord as scout, trainer, technical director, press manager for 70 years. The pre match tribute was better than Feyenoord’s tribute on the pitch. The home team started well, but fell back and eventually had to settle for a draw: 2-2.
Luc Castaignos put Feyenoord ahead scoring in his third consecutive match in the 11th minute. Mika Väyrynen equalized in the 53rd minute and after that goal Heerenveen played with a winning spirit. Viktor Elm scored 2-1 and the visitors were heading for their third consecutive League win until 19-year-old Jerson Cabral secured a point for Feyenoord.
“We should have scored more in the first half,” Feyenoord coach Mario Been said. “After they equalized we were only heading backwards. We take too few points from our home matches, which is disappointing because we had the chance for more today.”
