AC Milan vs Real Madrid Match Preview

Angela Asante, Oct 29th 2009
The big game that everyone will surely love to watch on Tuesday night will be the clash between AC Milan and Real Madrid at the San Siro.

Real Madrid down, AC Milan victorious - The Rossoneri triumph 3-2 in five goal thriller at the Santiago BernabeuBoth teams are on a tough run in their respective domestic leagues. In the first leg though, it was the Italians who came out victorious of this titanic encounter that was played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Champions League is getting more exciting than ever as the campaign goes on. In Group C, things look tighter than they were before match-day 3.

After beating the nine-time European winners at the Santiago Bernabeu – which will be the venue for this season’s Champions League final – AC Milan are back on track and back on level terms.

Instead of letting Los Blancos create a six-point gap at the top of the table, the Rossoneri have closed in on their European rivals and nothing separates them but goal difference.

Some branded AC Milan’s victory against Real Madrid as a miracle, since the Diavoli had to come from behind to record a unique victory against the Spanish Giants at the Bernabeu.

Whatever it is, Pirlo and Pato provided the thrills which gave a boost of confidence and a sigh of relief to their coach, Leonardo.

At the San Siro, fans could expect things to be much more different.
Either AC Milan will have the opportunity to take advantage on a distracted Real Madrid side, either the Rossoneri will face an embarrassing night against a hungry and determined Los Blancos team.

Either way, the Italian giants will be thinking about one thing: playing at their full best and grabbing another victory.

Pato and Ronaldinho could make the difference

Some specific players are poised to raise AC Milan’s game to another level.

Pato, whose brace powered Milan to an historic 3-2 win over Real Madrid, might terrorize the visitors’ defense again.

The 20-year-old striker was full of energy a fortnight ago and his good form could continue on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, Ronaldinho could perform better than he did in Madrid. He showed glimpses of an excellent display but was not the most dangerous player on the pitch like he used to be a few years back.

According to Milan’s boss, Leonardo, the former Brazilian wonder-maker “hasn’t reached the level Milan want him to be at”.

The misery for AC Milan could come from their goalkeeper Dida whose mistake (which led to Raul’s opener) turned out to be the joke of the tournament so far.

However, striker Pato is confident that Dida remains a vital member in the squad. He said:

“Despite the mistake, Dida still saved the result at many occasions.

“We are a team and we win all together and make mistakes all together.”

Los Blancos need to bounce back in the Champions League as quickly as possible.

They made it clear that this competition was their priority but their latest display in Europe simply explained that they might not be at the Santiago Bernabeu for the final in May.

The biggest bad news in the camp of the Spanish Giants is that Cristiano Ronaldo will not take part in Tuesday’s match at the San Siro.

According to reports, Real Madrid’s most influential player will spend further days on the sidelines before returning to action for his side.

So for another time again, Real Madrid will have to play minus the world’s most expensive football star, Cristiano Ronaldo.

But Ricardo Kaka should be available if he doesn’t suffer any injury against Getafe on Saturday. The former AC Milan playmaker didn’t enjoy the best of reunions the last time out and he could be out to rectify things, this time, in Italy.

Los Blancos will need to regroup under whoever the coach will be on Tuesday. After losing 4-0 against third tier side Alcorcon in the Spanish Copa del Rey during the week, the pressure mounted more than ever on boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Tactically, Real Madrid looked disorganized lately as well as against AC Milan. For Karim Benzema, the defeat against the Italian giants mainly came from the fact that Los Blancos should have played more in the wings rather than through the middle.

The French star explained:

"It’s true that we play more in the centre and you have to try to play down the wings.

“These are things on which we’ll work in practice, things that we must carry over into games."

Reflecting on Madrid’s loss to Milan, Marcelo stated that replicating the performance that they had in the first half throughout the entire game will be the solution to achieve victory at the San Siro.
