More About 2010 African Cup of Nations

The Africa Cup of Nations is also known as the African Cup of Nations, it is Africa’s top football tournament. 16 Nations participate in the qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations where they are divided into four groups.

The Confederation of African Football normally selects a country to host the tournament, which usually kicks off in January, every two years. The 2010 Africa Cup of Nations will be in Angola.

Egypt remains the African Nation Football favorite having won the competition on six occasions. Both Cameroon and Ghana have also won the African football tournament four times each.

The football competition is overseen by the CAF - Confederation of African Football. Since the Africa Cup of Nations takes place in January it poses a serious problem to the football clubs where the African star footballer play. The bi-annual tournament robs many of the top European clubs of their stars for a full month. It has been proposed to move the tournament date to the summer months, which occur during the "wet" season in Africa. This proposal has not been accepted yet but FIFA has set a target to have the competition re-structured by 2016 to address the competition clash with European football leagues.
