The Brazilian-born player could be close to end his eight-month hiatus by joining a struggling club from the English top-flight.

The end of the summer transfer window in England has already taken place, but all free agents may still be hired by teams in need of talent. Such is the case of an injury-ridden Premier League, who could offer former Chelsea star Diego Costa a way out of his current unemployment.

The footballer, who ended his contract with Atlético Mineiro last January, could be set to end his current hiatus by joining Premier League club Wolverhampton. Costa would return to the EPL after leaving Chelsea four years ago to join Atlético Madrid, where he would go on to win the 2020-21 La Liga title, the UEFA Super Cup, and the UEFA Europa League. Costa scored 59 goals in 120 games for Chelsea during his four-year stay with the Blues.

Costa's return to the EPL would come due to the infortunate injury suffered by Wolves' new signing Sasa Kalajdzic, who picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury during his debut with the club this Saturday. Considering that Kalajdzic had been brought in as a solution to Raúl Jiménez's dip in form, Costa's arrival could come in handy for the team coached by Bruno Lage.

A report by The Athletic states that the 33-year-old Costa is already traveling to England, where he will undergo medical tests to determine his fitness after a seven-month hiatus in his career. If things go as planned, Costa may be ready to return to action if the Wolves can offer him the right deal to continue his playing career.
