Preview

The March international break is in full swing, with several exciting fixtures taking place during this pause. One standout game is scheduled for Saturday, and that is France's showdown with Germany, with these two European powerhouses locking horns at 4 p.m. ET in preparation for this summer's European Championship.

Les Bleus will play two friendly matches in preparation for Euro 2024, starting with this showdown with the upcoming tournament's hosts before hosting Chile at the Stade Vélodrome.

Following another impressive FIFA World Cup campaign in which Didier Deschamps' men reached a second consecutive final, which they lost to Argentina, Mbappe and Co. should fancy their odds of winning both this tie and Euro 2024. However, things did not end well for France the last time they crossed paths with Germany.

The two-time FIFA World Cup winners visited Signal Iduna Park back in September in the wake of Hansi Flick's sacking, but despite this, Les Bleus left empty-handed.

Antoine Griezmann got on the scoresheet, but goals from Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane handed the French a 2-1 loss, which remains their only defeat since the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Doha, Qatar.

Regardless, France was unstoppable in the Euro qualifiers, picking up a whopping 22 points out of an available 24 after winning all but one of eight matches.

Despite being grouped with the Netherlands in the qualifying round, Les Bleus finished comfortably ahead of their continental rivals. Mbappe and Co. will face the Dutch again in the group stage of Euro 2024 and will need to be at their best both this summer and in Saturday's friendly.

While France is one of the favorites for the European Championship, tremendous uncertainty surrounds Germany despite boasting the home advantage. The three-time winners kick off the tournament on June 14 against Scotland but will need to get their act together, starting with this fixture.

It has been over six months since Germany sacked Hansi Flick due to their atrocious form, winning only one in six matches following their 2022 FIFA World Cup group-stage exit. However, while the European giants have played only five matches since, not much has changed.

The first match following Flick's exit was the 2-1 win over France, which was overseen by caretaker Rudi Voller. Julian Nagelsmann made his debut in the subsequent fixture, a 3-1 win over the USMNT. However, die Mannschaft have not won a game since then, drawing with Mexico and losing back-to-back matches against Turkey and Austria.

As a result, the pressure is already piling on Nagelsmann, who has only been in charge for a few months and overseen only four matches. German fans want their nation to perform well on home soil in Euro 2024, and so far, the results on the pitch paint a bleak picture for the upcoming tournament.

In fact, many believe Germany might not have even qualified had they not been the hosts and received automatic qualification. Nonetheless, Saturday's fixture gives Nagelsmann's side the opportunity to turn things around. The four-time FIFA World Cup champions boast a talented squad thanks to the presence of Ilkay Gundogan, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, and the returning Toni Kroos. Expect an exciting 90 minutes of football in this showdown.
