The viewership numbers for soccer games in the USA for November 13-19, 2023, are in, and with the international break dominating that period, the beautiful game suffered a drop in audience.
In fact, only five matches garnered over 150,000 average viewers, with the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Argentina and Uruguay and the USMNT's victory over Trinidad and Tobago in the CONCACAF Nations League taking the top two spots.
The aforementioned showdown between La Albiceleste and La Celeste reigned supreme, with just under one million average viewers tuning in to Telemundo to watch the Uruguayans beat the World Cup holders 2-0.
Meanwhile, USMNT came in at second with their 3-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago, which earned 869,000 average viewers for Telemundo. This was a CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal, with the Stars and Stripes ultimately winning over two legs to make the finals and qualify for next year's Copa America.
And finally, we have Mexico's first-leg defeat to Honduras in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals. Columbus Crew: The Crew finished in third place in the Eastern Conference and third overall in the league. Wilfried Nancy's team had to book their spot in the semi-finals over a series of three games against Atlanta United. Although they won the first game 2-0, they were beaten 4-2 in the second game to set up a nail-biter for the third match, during which they triumphed 4-2 and now will travel to face Orlando City (who are seeded higher) this Saturday.
Cincinnati: Pat Noonan's men had an absolutely outstanding season in which they won the league and now could potentially complete a coveted double. Spearheaded by the brilliant form of Luciano Acosta, the Orange and Blue avoided having to play a third game against the New York Red Bulls by beating them 8-7 on spot-kicks in game two after the match finished as a 1-1 draw. Next up for Cincinnati will be a showdown against Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
Philadelphia Union: Speaking of the Union, Jim Curtin's troops finished fourth in the Eastern Conference and fifth overall in the league. Like their upcoming opponents Cincinnati, they avoided having to play a third game after securing 3-1 and 1-0 wins over New England Revolution, and will certainly look forward to facing the newly-crowned Supporters' Shield winners this weekend.
Houston Dynamo: Houston Dynamo finished fourth in the Western Conference and ninth overall in the league. Ben Olsen's team have already lifted one title this season, as they clinched the US Open Cup after beating Inter Miami 2-1 in the final. The team really had to work hard to get to this juncture, as they battled Real Salt Lake over three matches - including two that went to penalties - to book a spot in the Western Conference semi-finals. It will be interesting to see if having to play one extra game will impact the team as they prepare to face Kansas City on Sunday.
Kansas City: Meanwhile, Kansas City, who finished eighth in the Western Conference and 15th overall in the league, had a much easier time in their round one series. The Wizards cruised to a 4-1 win against St. Louis on the road, before securing a 2-1 home win to make sure that Peter Vermes's team set up a showdown against Houston Dynamo on November 26th.
Seattle Sounders: The Sounders finished second in the Western Conference and seventh overall in the league. Despite their experience - and prior success in MLS Cups - Brian Schmetzer's team had to work a lot harder than many anticipated to set up their semi-final meetings against Los Angeles on Sunday. Things appeared to be going well following a 2-0 win over Dallas, but the second game proved to be an interesting one as Dallas, encouraged by their home fans, battled to a 3-1 win. Both sides certainly had everything to play for in game three, but ultimately, the Sounders prevailed 1-0 to keep their MLS Cup dreams afloat.
Los Angeles: Last but certainly not least, reigning MLS Cup holders Los Angeles have provided plenty of entertainment so far in this competition. The Black and Gold, who finished third in the Western Conference and eighth overall in the league, overpowered Vancouver 5-2 in a seven-goal thriller in game one before securing their semi-final spot thanks to a gritty 1-0 victory in game two. Next up for Steve Cherundolo's men will be a tough test against Seattle on Sunday to see which of these two teams will feature in the Western Conference finals on December 2nd.

New football documentary 'The World According to Football' set to live-stream on Paramount+ on December 1
On December 1st, Showtime Sports will be dropping a new documentary titled "The World According to Football". Narrated and executive produced by Trevor Noah, the five-part series travels through five different countries - the USA, the UK, Brazil, France, and Qatar. The focus will be on how key issues, such as mental health, racism, women's rights, socio-economic inequality, nationalism, and labor rights are addressed by both fans and soccer teams in those five nations.
The first episode kicks off on Friday, December 1st at 8 pm EST (5 pm PST), and the series will run for five weeks, with one episode happening each week. Viewers can live-stream the opening episode plus the entire series on Paramount+ if they have subscribed to SHOWTIME.
Other collaborators on this upcoming series include Gotham Chopra, who produced it through his production company Religion of Sports alongside Mainstay Entertainment and Day Zero Productions.
Huge blow: Gavi set to miss Euro 2024 as Barcelona reveal injury update on the Spanish ace
Sunday was a bitter-sweet day for the Spanish national team as their 3-1 victory over Georgia in their final Euro 2024 qualifier won them the group but came at the cost of one of their most talented players.
That person is Gavi, the highly-rated Barcelona teenager who was forced off the pitch with a serious injury to his right knee. This occurred in the first half, with the Roja ace twisting it in an awkward attempt to control the ball.
Speaking after the game, Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente admitted that it was a worrisome issue. The initial diagnosis was a torn ACL, and with the midfielder returning to Barcelona on crutches that same night for tests, the Spanish giants have now confirmed this to be true.
This is a gutting update for two reasons. Not only will Gavi miss the rest of the season but the midfielder is unlikely to recover in time for Euro 2024 as he looks to be out for seven to nine months.

Real Madrid could be forced to find a new manager this summer due to the question marks over Carlo Ancelotti's future. As a result, rumors linking the Spanish giants with a move for former manager Jose Mourinho have been doing the rounds.
The Roma boss was asked this question by Rai 1, sparking an honest reply from the 60-year-old. Jose played down these rumors, arguing that Los Merengues already have a "super manager" in the form of Ancelotti and have no need for another manager.
"Back to Real Madrid to replace Ancelotti? If you know Florentino [Pérez], and I know him very well, he is super intelligent and has very clear ideas," Mourinho said, as per AS.
Man Utd receive huge boost as key player returns from injury ahead of crucial trip to Everton
Manchester United have endured a horrible start to the season. While the Red Devils are sixth in the Premier League table, Ten Hag's men have already suffered five defeats and are bottom of their UEFA Champions League group after four games.
However, the English giants have received a huge boost just as the November international break nears its end. Luke Shaw, one of Ten Hag's key performers last season, has returned to training after a lengthy injury spell.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said Tuesday his side have an "unbelievable amount of work to do" six months from hosting Euro 2024 after falling to a 2-0 friendly defeat against Austria in Vienna.

FC Cincinnati's Pat Noonan was named Major League Soccer's Coach of the Year on Tuesday after guiding his squad to the league's best regular-season record.
