Ben Arfa rehashes Emery fued with dig at Arsenal boss after Rennes loss

The pair did not see eye to eye during their time together at PSG and the Frenchman hasn't forgotten about it.

Hatem Ben Arfa has decided on adding insult to injury for Unai Emery after aiming a fresh dig at his former boss shortly after Arsenal's embarrassing 3-1 loss at Rennes.

The Gunners traveled to France for their Europa League round of 16 first leg game and was hoping for an advantageous away result. However, despite taking the lead early on in the game, the north London outfit went on to concede three goals after Sokratis' sending off.

Ben Arfa was part of the squad that pulled off that comeback against the Premier League outfit and could not help but take aim at his former manager, one whom he had fallen out with. The pair had a rough relationship at PSG in what was a disastrous spell for the Frenchman before eventually leaving Parc des Princes.

Emery was not a fan of the winger's attitude and inconsistency did little to help the former Newcastle man's case. Additionally, after that unforgettable 6-1 loss at Camp Nou to Barcelona, Ben Arfa told the tactician that he would never make the quarter-finals of the Champions League and reportedly made fun of the Spaniard's attempts to speak French while in Ligue 1.

"I saw the same Emery, as agitated as ever," the 32-year-old said after Thursday's win over Arsenal (as per the Daily Mail).

"I looked over at him a few times and that made me laugh. He hasn't changed."

While things are not over for Aubameyang and Co, they are in a tricky situation. With both Sokratis and Lacazette suspended, the Gunners must overturn the deficit if they wish to remain in this competition. A 2-0 scoreline would be enough to secure progression, but the north London outfit's shaky defense has not been the best at keeping clean sheets.

Next up for Emery's men is a crucial clash in the Premier League. Arsenal will host a Man United side booming with confidence after eliminating PSG from Europe to make the last eight. The Emirates Stadium side, however, heads into this tie on the back of an embarrassing loss and must win to keep their top-four hopes alive given that their other route back to the Champions League -- winning the Europa League -- is under threat.
