The country is second from bottom in the CONMEBOL table, but a 6-1 demolition of Diego Maradona’s Argentina has given them some immeasurable pride. They continue their World Cup qualifying campaign with a game at home to Venezuela on June 6.
There are very slim chances for Ecuador to qualify to South Africa 2010. A hard-fought comeback against Brazil to secure a 1-1 draw in March was an excellent result for La Tricolor who then rekindled their hopes of reaching the promise land in southern Africa. But after letting a precious 1-0 lead slip away against Paraguay in the very last moments of the encounter, the task ahead of the Ecuadorians seems to be huge again.
Mexico have won only one match out of their last six World Cup qualifying games and they just can’t afford to slip again as their dream of reaching South Africa is hanging from a thread.
The 51-year-old Mexican is well known amongst his people for his success in guiding El Tri all the way to the 2001 Copa America final (where they unfortunately lost 1-0 to Colombia), and also to the last 16 of the 2002 World Cup in Korea-Japan.
The Yankees stunned El Salvador on March 28 with a spirited comeback, rising from 2-0 down after 72 minutes to level 2-2 with only three minutes of normal time remaining. The United States then went on to trample Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 on April 1st, thanks to Jozy Altidore’s hat-trick. These two results, which kept the USA at the top of the CONCACAF qualifying group with seven points, have by all means revealed the true side of the Yankees’ strength in mentality. This is a united team where belief and determination to reach the skies are two living notions.
USA’s captain, Bocanegra, praised the efforts of the country’s national team while speaking to Fifa.com: “We have won our two home games (against Mexico then Trinidad & Tobago) but we were disappointed with the draw in El Salvador. It just shows that on the world stage, the supposed smaller countries are not easy to play against.”

The Argentines appear to be completely devastated after suffering a shocking 6-1 hammering in the hands of Bolivia on April 1.
This defeat went down in the country’s football history as an unforgettable moment in Maradona’s career; The controversial living legend will have to overturn this shameful result with further convincing results and ultimately a place in next year’s World Cup finals if he wants to appease the pressure caused by critics and moaning fans around him.
