From the day Schalke 04 got drawn with Valencia for the Champions League’s Last 16 phase, ex-Madrid skipper Raul was destined to return to Spain. Coach Unai Emery relishes this Spanish reunion.

“Raul magnifies this tie,” the Valencia boss told reporters ahead of Tuesday match at the Mestalla stadium.
But Raul isn’t the only former Blanco who will return to Spain after quite a while and Emery knows that. The coach continued:
“Also, having two other former Real Madrid players, Metzelder and Huntelaar in addition to Raul, indicates the potential of Schalke. Huntelaar and Raul are scoring goals too.”
Coach Unai Emery certainly has much respect for Schalke 04. However, he doesn’t feel like Valencia are underdogs going into this Champions League encounter. The Valencia boss was quick to underline his team’s positive mentality as he stated:
Valencia striker Roberto Soldado has urged his teammates to seize all they can in the first leg match against Schalke.

Valencia are back in the knockout round of the Champions League after a four-year absence and they are set to match another side who have exceeded all expectations during the group stages.
Even though they lost at home to Manchester United, Valencia pushed Sir Alex Ferguson's men to the maximum until finishing second in the group. Meanwhile, Schalke topped a group that included the likes of Olympique Lyonnais and Benfica.
For Roberto Soldado, this match represents the biggest match of the season for them and he urges his teammates to aim for the jugular.

You might be crossing your fingers in anxiety as the 8 Last 16 fixtures are about to be revealed. The Champions League's top teams (Internazionale, Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Arsenal) all want to avoid facing a tough draw. However, there's a big chance that football fans will be offered at least a couple of titanic matches which will rock the Champions League stage come February and March.
Valencia will take on Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. This venue has been a lucky one for Los Blancos this season who hold a perfect record in the Spanish capital so far.

Following their loss away to Barcelona, Real Madrid are expected to put up the kind of performance that will see them bounce back against Valencia tonight.
Are Los Che unlucky to come up against the Spanish giants at such a point in time? Valencia’s coach, Unai Emery, believes that whatever the truth is, his men don’t have to enter the Santiago Bernabeu with a depressed mentality.
“I think Real Madrid will play the match with a high level of performance,” Emery predicted.
“They have great players, but this doesn’t mean that we don’t want to beat them. We will have to play a complete game.
Real Madrid vs Valencia is the match in La Liga this weekend which is set to captivate the attention of everyone – Real Madrid fans look for comfort while others anticipate more jeers following El Clasico…
Real Madrid were beaten, and beaten well, by Barcelona in La Liga’s 13th match-day. But if the number 13 brought bad luck to Los Blancos, Mesut Özil thinks that match-day 14 should offer something else to the wounded giants.
According to the German star...
Real Madrid’s mortifying 5-0 defeat away to Barcelona on Monday has replaced fear with cruelty in the hearts of teams that had a lot of respect for Los Blancos before November’s El Clasico.

Valencia are first on Real Madrid’s list following their epic failure at the Camp Nou, and Los Che are hoping to add more salt to the Spanish giants’ open wounds. Valencia kicked off La Liga season on a good note and they occupied the top spot for weeks before breaking under pressure.
Real Madrid then overtook Los Che only to succumb to Barcelona’s threat on match-day 13. As La Liga heads into match-day 14 this weekend, Valencia are looking to climb up in the table standings where they are currently 5th with 10 points behind new leaders Barca.
The clash of the weekend in La Liga is Real Madrid vs Valencia and midfielder Joaquin has revealed that Los Che are planning to take advantage of Los Blancos’ wounded spirit.
No team has managed to defeat Rangers this season. Will Valencia finally dominate over their Scottish opponents in the Champions League on Tuesday night?
A Look At Rangers’ Unbeaten Record
As stated earlier on, Rangers are undefeated in all competitions and it’s only last Saturday that their 100% record in the Scottish Premier League came to an end. But again, it wasn’t through a loss but a 1-1 draw at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Rangers’ previous 9 match-days domestically had all ended in victories. Their 3-2 win against Aberdeen and their 3-1 triumph against their bitter rivals Celtic are highlights of Rangers’ remarkable run in Scotland.
However, their adventure in the Champions League hasn’t been as sweet as in the Scottish Premier League. Still no defeat, though; but only one victory in three matches is a record that has deprived them from going above Group C leaders Manchester United. Holding the Red Devils to a goalless draw at Old Trafford wasn’t the best way for Rangers to kick off their Champions League campaign but it was good enough for them to maintain their unbeaten record in all competitions.
This weekend’s big match in La Liga is between Barcelona and Valencia and Los Che will create a 6-point lead over 4th placed Barca with a win.

According to midfielder Dominguez, the game will test Valencia's strength to win the domestic title for the first time in 7 years. It may seem strange to many that Valencia are currently doing so well on the domestic front following the exit of play makers David Villa and David Silva.
Another remarkable thing is that Villa is now a Barcelona player but his presence with the Catalans has so far not managed to help his new club outclass Los Che in La Liga standings.
How long can Valencia hold on to their remarkable run in the league?
Ahead of Barcelona's vital La Liga clash against Valencia, former club president Joan Laporta has fiercely criticized the Blaugrana’s new chief, Sandro Rosell.

Laporta was accused by his predecessor to have generated huge debts at the club, but he has hit back at such claims with a public attack.
“Our management of the club was excellent. We helped to build the best Barcelona team ever, but they [Sandro Rosell and his associates] have rather made a bad name of our management,” Joan Laporta complained to AS.
“This damage may result in irreparable consequences, and I do think that Sandro Rosell doesn’t deserve his position as Barcelona’s president. There’s a great deal of resentment from this board towards me.”
Hernandez steals it for United at Valencia, 1-0. Actually, that was only the Red Devils' second victory in nineteen matches played in Spain.

Valencia 0-1 Manchester United
Goals: Javier Hernandez-MAN (85’)
Bookings: Aritz Aduriz-VAL (yellow, 90’ +)
Javier Hernandez opened up his Manchester United scoring account in fine fashion with a spectacular winner in the 85th minute to give Manchester United a crucial 1-0 away win at Valencia in UEFA Champions League Group C play on Wednesday night.
Hernandez’s goal gave United its seventh Champions League victory in the last eight tries and places United atop the Group C standings along with Rangers.
Manchester United will affront Valencia in Spain on Wednesday night. The Red Devils have only one point and Edwin Van der Sar wants his side to defeat Group C’s leaders, Los Che.
Things are just not clicking correctly for 2008 UEFA Champions League winners Manchester United. Their form away from home has especially been unconvincing, and results haven’t been positive either. In the English Premier League, the Red Devils succumbed to disappointing draws at Fulham, Everton, and Bolton respectively.
In these three away matches, Manchester United conceded up to 7 goals in total and they are now under pressure to improve on their defensive performance away from Old Trafford. On match-day one of the UEFA Champions League, Alex Ferguson made a controversial squad selection and his team eventually got held to a goalless draw to mark a rather disappointing start to their European campaign this season.
For Manchester United, matters may get a lot worse before they get better.

By Scott Hansen
Coming off the heels of another disappointing away draw, 2-2 at Bolton Wanderers on Sunday, Wayne Rooney has been ruled out for a crucial Group C Champions League match away at Valencia with an ankle injury.
To open Champions League play, Manchester United failed to inspire and settled for a scoreless draw against Rangers in UEFA Champions League Group C.
Valencia enters the match with Manchester United riding high, currently sitting atop the La Liga standings with 13 points over the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Valencia has only dropped points once this season in a home draw with Athletico Madrid.
Sky Sports/English UEFA Champions League commentator Andy Gray said it best in the waning moments of Manchester United’s Group C opener against Rangers (Scotland) on Tuesday night. “It’s 8 v. 10 right now for United.”

Rangers manager Walter Smith nailed the “annoying” tactics and managed to stave-off the hosts with a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford to further question United’s title aspirations for another few days.
Eight Manchester United attackers failed to break down the 10-men Rangers dedicated to ensuring a point from their 3-hour trip.

UEFA Champions League titleholders Inter Milan drew 2-2 away to FC Twente while Barcelona trounced Panathinaikos 5-1 as match-day one of the competition showed interesting results…

Group A: FC Twente 2-2 Inter Milan; Werder Bremen 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur
It finished as it started. All four teams are leveled with a point each, having all played out a 2-2 draw in their respective fixture on Tuesday night. FC Twente and Werder Bremen would be the happiest, though.
In the Netherlands, Dutch international Wesley Sneijder opened the score sheet for the visitors inside the 13th minute of the game before Theo Janssen cancelled out the Nerazzurri’s lead seven minutes later. Diego Milito unluckily damaged Inter Milan’s chances to win the match as he scored an own goal on the half hour mark.
Gone are the days when Valencia stunned Europe by reaching the 2000 and 2001 UEFA Champions League finals. But veteran David Albelda wants them back again!

The Spaniard was a young player in his early 20s back then. As he spoke to UEFA.com, David Albelda recalled sweet memories:
“These were the first years of a very good Valencia side. It was a pleasure to be involved. We were humbled, and we had a good balance of young and old players. For us, the first final (2000) was something very new.
“At that time, I was young. I just couldn’t believe what had happened. I was carried away by the euphoria of it all. That’s something I’ll never...

The draw for the UEFA Champions League was made on Thursday. Live Soccer TV briefly takes you through each group, from group A to group H. Check out what we had to say on Inter Milan, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and co!
Group A: Inter Milan, Werder Bremen, Tottenham Hotspur, FC Twente
These four teams compose an interesting section. Let’s see what Tottenham Hotspur will make of their first season in the UEFA Champions League. In the meantime, Rafael Benitez will try to help Inter Milan defend their title so starting well in the group stages will surely be imperative. Don’t write off FC Twente’s chances just yet, by the way, and don’t forget about Werder Bremen’s power either.
Group B: Olympique Lyonnais, Benfica, Schalke 04, Hapoel Tel-Aviv
A fairly balanced group. Top seeds Lyon will have to watch out for an upset, though. Benfica won’t seat back for yet another season. Likewise, Schalke 04 would love to prove what German football is all about. They might also benefit a lot from Raul’s remarkable knowledge in the UEFA Champions League. Hapoel Tel-Aviv? Well, they will need to work out wonders because they look more likely to occupy the bottom of Group B after match-day 6.
In what is arguably the most interesting fixture in La Liga this weekend, Real Madrid will affront Valencia at the Santiago Bernabeu as the season reaches Match-day 33. Both teams won their latest respective game and they’ll be keen to take all three points on Sunday as well. Who will come on top? Who will suffer disappointment? LiveSoccerTV.com takes you through a preview ahead of this classic encounter.
‘Real Madrid never give up’
These five words were echoed by Real Madrid’s superstar winger Cristiano Ronaldo after Los Blancos’ hard-fought 2-1 victory over Almeria on Thursday. The Spanish giants were 6 points off the leaders Barcelona going into that game so a win was badly needed. Thanks to Ronaldo’s solo goal equalizer and Van der Vaart’s 68th minute match winner, Real Madrid managed to steal the maximum points away from their opponents and thus keep pace with their Catalan rivals at the top of the table.
Real Madrid refuse to concede La Liga title to Barcelona that early as there are 18 points more to scoop. They are hoping to set up a 98-point record at the end of the season which will eventually land them the trophy should Barcelona fail to best the 87-point mark they achieved last season.
Stressing Real Madrid’s need to be hopeful and looking ahead to Sunday’s crunch match against Los Che, Coach Manuel Pellegrini stated:
FC Barcelona will be playing against third place Valencia at the Estadio Camp Nou this weekend, in match-day 26 of La Liga.

Barcelona and Valencia drew 0-0 at the Mestalla Stadium during beginning of this season, but on Sunday evening, settling for a goalless draw will not be an option for either side.
A serious matter for Barcelona
This clash will be taken very seriously by the Catalans who will be looking to regain the pole position in the league standings; and it will not only give them 3 precious points, but also will it serve as a preparation for their Champions League second-leg encounter at home against Stuttgart in midweek.
Barcelona shared a point last weekend when they travelled away to Almeria, with Lionel Messi rescuing the Blaugrana through a second-half equalizer.
This unsatisfying result however saw them drop down to the second spot in the table due to a weaker goal difference than rivals Real Madrid; yet, coach Guardiola believes that ‘nothing is decided yet’.
La Liga returns in Spain after an interesting midweek full of European action. For Real Madrid fans, the attention will switch from the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille to the Mestalla stadium in Valencia.
Valencia analyses
Valencia are third in the Spanish Primera Liga table standings.
They have 28 points from thirteen games and they seat just three points behind Real Madrid who are second in the table.
Valencia are unbeaten at home this season and they’ve scored as much as 10 goals in six matches at the Mestalla stadium.
The only time they failed to score on their own soil was against Barcelona when they played a goalless draw back in October.
Barcelona regained the first position in the Spanish League table after Real Madrid lost away to Sevilla, but their control at the top will once again be questioned when they travel to the Estadio Mestalla on Saturday to face Valencia.
Valencia fighting for a place in the top four
The Spanish club VCF is currently occupying the fifth place in the standings, and mathematically, even a win at home against leaders Barcelona will not automatically guarantee them a place in the top four places of the table.
With two giants preparing to meet each other, there is no doubt the game will get a lot of attention. Hence, a special outcome could take place, but a disappointing display from both sides could also reduce the excitement towards the big match.
