Twente vs Ajax Preview

Saturday May 7 2011,
Ajax face FC Twente in the first of two season deciding clashes in De Kuip on Sunday. The Dutch Cup final is a prelude to the last match round of the Eredivisie on 15 May, in which both clubs will fight for the title.
Frank de Boer is confident: “I’ve got a good feeling”, the Ajax coach said on Friday. “We’ve got a young team, which is unstable. They have Bryan Ruiz and Theo Janssen, players who can make a difference in important matches, but I don’t consider Twente to be the favorites.”

Twente coach Michel Preud’homme tries to downplay Twente’s position as favorites as well. “No, I don’t think we’re clear cut favorites in the Cup Final. They have a young team all right, but Ajax is a tight squad. They play for the Cup and the title, that’s not a coincidence. Teams that end up in this position are the best of the season.”

Both De Boer and Preud’homme consider winning the title more important than the Cup. “Of course we want to win on Sunday”, De Boer said. “But the big one is next Sunday.” Ajax did not win the Dutch title since 2004. Both Twente and Ajax decided not to celebrate an eventual Cup victory, because they want to focus on the championship decider in Amsterdam.

Villareal Vs Twente: Should Villareal Be Regarded As Europa League Favorites?

The three Portuguese teams are all obvious favourites but as Villareal get ready to host FC Twente tonight, Juan Carlos Garrido has told his players that they can win the Europa League.
The Yellow Submarines are regarded as favorites to win this tie but whether they are regarded as favorites for the Europa League is still under doubt. Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting Braga have all progressed into the quarter finals and this trio are definitely regarded as massive favorites by all means.

However, the team that hails from the El Madrigal must never be underestimated for certain reasons. The Yellow Submarines are yet to taste any major cup success since being promoted to the La Liga in 1998 but the talent at the disposal of Garrido suggests that it could be a matter of time before success floods the province of Castellón.

Tags: Champions League, Twente, Tottenham Hotspur, Europa League
FC Twente’s future in Europe has been revealed. Tonight’s Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur will be their last in the competition this season as they are set to play in the Europa League.
However, desire to defeat Tottenham Hotspur still burns for the Dutch side. In the first leg of this tie, Twente were humiliated 4-1 at White Hart Lane.

Now, according to defender Roberto Rosales, all they want is to heal the wound created by that heavy loss. When asked about his views ahead of the Spurs match, the 22-year-old told UEFA.com:

“Revenge for the away match against Spurs? Well, we were disappointed after that game, and tomorrow we want to win.

“We will never forget that match. We played a good game.

Champions League - Inter Milan vs Twente: Time For Internazionale To Make A Revival

Wednesday November 24 2010,
Tags: Champions League, Inter Milan, Twente
Inter Milan will host Twente in the Champions League at the San Siro. It’s a crucial match for the kings of Europe who haven’t won a game since October.
It’s surprising to know that in a group where there are inexperienced teams like Spurs and Twente, Champions League titleholders Inter Milan aren’t on top of the standings. The Nerazzurri stumbled at White Hart Lane the other time and they now have themselves to blame for being 2nd in Group A.

Nothing has been sorted out in this section ahead of match-day 5 as Internazionale and Tottenham have 7 points while Twente and Bremen follow with 5 and 2 points respectively. Just as much as Rafa’s men stand a great chance of reaching the Last 16 of the tournament, they are also exposed to the danger of achieving something below their expectations.

UEFA Champions League Match-day One Review – From Group A to Group D

UEFA Champions League titleholders Inter Milan drew 2-2 away to FC Twente while Barcelona trounced Panathinaikos 5-1 as match-day one of the competition showed interesting results…
Group A: FC Twente 2-2 Inter Milan; Werder Bremen 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur

It finished as it started. All four teams are leveled with a point each, having all played out a 2-2 draw in their respective fixture on Tuesday night. FC Twente and Werder Bremen would be the happiest, though.

In the Netherlands, Dutch international Wesley Sneijder opened the score sheet for the visitors inside the 13th minute of the game before Theo Janssen cancelled out the Nerazzurri’s lead seven minutes later. Diego Milito unluckily damaged Inter Milan’s chances to win the match as he scored an own goal on the half hour mark.

Twente vs Inter Milan Preview

Tuesday September 14 2010,
Tags: Inter, Champions League, Twente, Eto'o, Mourinho, Benitez
European Champions Inter open the defence of their title against Twente.

When coach Jose Mourinho left Inter for Real Madrid this past summer, there was a pervasive suspicion that Inter's time in the limelight was perhaps coming to an end.  After claiming the European Cup, the Scudetto, and the Coppa Italia the Nerazzurri, once known as the perennial underachievers of Italian football, had the onerous task of upholding their newly established reputation as winners.  Even when Inter were sweeping past opposition en route to their Scudetti wins in 2007, 2008, and 2009, the skeptics still questioned their mettle.  They gestured, and not without reason, to the fact that Inter had not won football's most coveted prize, the European Cup, since Helenio Herrera's reign in the 1960s.  Since those heady days of triumph, Inter have been repeatedly eclipsed by their cross-city rivals Milan, who even in this past decade have won two European Cups to Inter's one.

Dutch Champion Wout Brama: Let’s Face Inter Milan Without Fear!

Monday September 13 2010,
Tags: Twente, Inter Milan, UEFA Champions League, Wout Brama
Could there have been anything more thrilling for FC Twente than to open their first ever UEFA Champions League campaign with a match against titleholders Inter Milan?

Is there any chance for the Dutch champions to start on a good note against last season’s treble winners? Defender Wout Brama thinks ‘yes’.

Last season, UEFA Champions League winners Inter Milan kicked off their European campaign with an away game as well. The meeting, which was against Barcelona, ended 0-0 in disappointing fashion. This term, FC Twente are keen to still some points away from the Italian Serie A champions. Speaking to UEFA.com, Twente defender Wout...

The UEFA Champions League: From Group A To Group H – Quick Analysis

The draw for the UEFA Champions League was made on Thursday. Live Soccer TV briefly takes you through each group, from group A to group H. Check out what we had to say on Inter Milan, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and co!

UEFA Champions League LogoGroup A: Inter Milan, Werder Bremen, Tottenham Hotspur, FC Twente

These four teams compose an interesting section. Let’s see what Tottenham Hotspur will make of their first season in the UEFA Champions League. In the meantime, Rafael Benitez will try to help Inter Milan defend their title so starting well in the group stages will surely be imperative. Don’t write off FC Twente’s chances just yet, by the way, and don’t forget about Werder Bremen’s power either.

Group B: Olympique Lyonnais, Benfica, Schalke 04, Hapoel Tel-Aviv

A fairly balanced group. Top seeds Lyon will have to watch out for an upset, though. Benfica won’t seat back for yet another season. Likewise, Schalke 04 would love to prove what German football is all about. They might also benefit a lot from Raul’s remarkable knowledge in the UEFA Champions League. Hapoel Tel-Aviv? Well, they will need to work out wonders because they look more likely to occupy the bottom of Group B after match-day 6.
