Barcelona are no longer present in the Champions League, and for that reason, they have now been fighting with all their strength to at least win La Liga title. The Catalans are in danger of losing the pole position to their rivals Real Madrid if they fail to take every chance they have before the end of the season, but they could be one step closer to accomplishing their mission with a triumph at home against Tenerife.
Barcelona - A good form
Bottom side Tenerife should certainly not be a threat for the league leaders. Barcelona destroyed Villarreal away from home at the weekend 4-1 thanks to a super performance from their Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi. The defending Copa del Rey champions may have not been able to show off their might in Europe this season, but happily, they still have hopes of finishing their season with one cup in their bag at least.
After recording a shocking 6-2 victory to maintain their perfect record at the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos are poised to inflict defeat on Tenerife just as they successfully did against Xerez on match-day 22.
A giant killing of Real Madrid by Tenerife?
It might seem unrealistic to believe that Tenerife will crash Real Madrid at a point when the Spanish giants look improved and stronger. However, this is what Los Blanquiazules are aiming for.
Looking at La Liga standings, Tenerife will be relieved to observe that they are 9 points ahead of rock bottomed Xerez. In the meantime, there are only five points separating the 19th position from the 16th position.
Tenerife – It’s time to wake up
Newly promoted side Tenerife really haven’t got a fine time this season in La Liga. They are only a place above the relegation zone, with only 15 points out of 16 matches. The lowly club has gone 3 games without a win in the league, and just as they look to bounce back from such a poor form, they’re destined to face giants Barcelona in their next league encounter.
Logically, Tenerife enter this game with not much positives; they however are obliged to be the winning team this weekend, as anything less than a victory will be strictly unadvised for their own sake. The opponents of Barcelona in Sunday’s game were destroyed 3-0 by Real Madrid on the 26th of September 2009, but on this occasion, they would do well to set their minds on making an upset, instead of playing with respect for the Catalans.
The race is hot at the top of the league table with Barcelona emerging as favorites to retain their Spanish Primera La Liga title. The Blaugrana seem unstoppable with the likes of Messi, Ibrahimovic, and Daniel Alves. Each game they play is a goal exhibition.
However, Real Madrid also possess a bunch of stars and an experienced coach who think that his team does not need time to settle. But for defender Raul Albiol, the opinion is a bit different.
