Now according to Cristiano Ronaldo, the 2010/2011 campaign will see Los Blancos clinching nothing less than at least one trophy. The world’s most expensive player recalled the public that Real Madrid were not tired of trying for glory as it could be read on the club’s official website:
“The goal is always the same: to win. We’ve got a very good team. I’m sure that if we work hard and have a little luck, then we’ll win a title or two this year.”
Cristiano Ronaldo featured for Real Madrid against Real Mallorca on match-day one of La Liga in a game that ended goalless at the disappointment of Barcelona’s fiercest rivals. But Ronaldo picked up an ankle injury in that encounter.
Real Madrid vs Osasuna will mark Los Blancos’ first home game of the season, and Pedro Leon is eager to help his side start well at the Santiago Bernabeu. Speaking to the club’s sponsor Bwin, the midfielder affirmed:
“We’ll have to play well, and as a tight knit group. In this way, we’ll have a chance to win. It’s not going to be easy, though. I’m sure it will be a difficult match. Yes, Osasuna drew their first match, but they are a battle-hardened team and they’ll pressure a lot. I’m sure they will trouble us.”
Coach Manuel Pellegrini has urged his men to concentrate on their own business. The mission here is to win all the matches that are left to be played in the league. This weekend, Real Madrid will pass a test at home to Osasuna which marks the first of their 'four finals' remaining. The match will kick off at 18:00 UK time on Sunday to be precise.
Both teams drew goalless in January 2010. The cold weather conditions came much to Real Madrid’s displeasure. Their play was well below the standard that spectators wished for and the least chances they had were disappointingly blown away. In other words, Real Madrid’s performance on that day wasn’t worth the three points. Meanwhile, pundits had tipped Los Blancos to cruise to victory so as to take advantage of Barcelona’s slip against Villarreal earlier on that weekend. Real Madrid will feel they lost a great opportunity there, but now they can’t look at Osasuna with the fear that they are going to drop points again.
Barcelona are still behind Real Madrid in the table on goal difference, but 3 more points could change the situation if ever Los Blancos slip on Thursday away to Getafe.
FC Barcelona – Back at their full best
Barcelona have made everything they could to prove to their fans that the “devastating form” which led them to a so-called perfect season in 2009 was back.
Barcelona have lost only a single game this season, and especially their last two games have been the evidences of their restored power.
An unstoppable Lionel Messi
In fact, one must admit that the top reason for Barcelona’s recent success is Lionel Messi.
The Argentine has been in excellent form lately, scoring 11 goals in his last 5 games in all competitions. Messi also made a hat-trick twice in a row against Valencia and Real Zaragoza, and considering his overall performance this year, he does not seem close to slowing down.
How Osasuna put their La Liga campaign on hold
Osasuna have picked up only four wins in as much as 15 match-days in La Liga this season. The last of those came back in November when they beat Real Zaragoza 1-0 away from home.
But throughout the month of December, Osasuna enjoyed no victories. They played a disappointing 1-1 draw against Malaga which was followed by defeat at home to Mallorca.
In their last La Liga game of the year 2009, Osasuna suffered an early blow as Athletico Bilbao’s Javier Yeste and Llorente both scored in the first quarter of an hour to deprive the visitors from gaining at least a point from that match.
The Same Old Story?
Usually, when FC Barcelona prepare to meet a side in the Spanish League, soccer fans tend to place the Blaugrana as the favorites to win the game. This is certainly because of their ability to humble great and small sides alike, but then, there is no doubt that expectations don’t always get realized.
Surely, the Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is aware of this fact; and as a result, making additional efforts is always his number one solution.
So far in La Liga this season, the reigning title holders have scored 8 goals and conceded only one away from home. This is definitely the evidence of their strength in attack, and remembering the amazing show they gave their fans at the Camp Nou last week when they hosted Racing Santander, one might conclude that this weekend’s match at the Estadio Reyno de Navarra between Barcelona and Osasuna will end up commonly, with Barcelona stealing the spotlight.
