The Dutch crowd came to the Amsterdam Arena with high expectations after the 4-0 show against the Maygars in Budapest last Friday. The Orange fans did not get another FC Barcelona-like football show however. Robin van Persie scored the opener in the 13th minute but the Dutch were not able to control the match and Hungary fought back.
The World Cup runners up will be without injured Mark van Bommel again when they host Hungary on Tuesday. Bert van Marwijk did not miss his son-in-law in the away match against the Maygars on Friday, when the Dutch crushed the home team 4-0 in Budapest.
Van Marwijk said that his team looked like FC Barcelona. “I think only few teams are capable of this play. We really humiliated Hungary, despite this being their crucial home match.” Rafael van der Vaart agreed with the coach. “We really outplayed them, they did not know what to do and ended up playing rough.”
The Netherlands are on top of Group E with the maximum score of twelve points from the first four matches in the Euro 2012 Qualification campaign. Hungary are second with nine points from four matches and if the Maygars want to stay in contention for first place they will have to grab points against the Orange squad.
Defeating Finland 2-0 was actually quite a way for Moldova to end their winless run of matches which lasted for almost three years. This result provided them with a great start in the Euro 2012 qualifiers as their now in the top half of Group E alongside Sweden and the Netherlands.
People are curious about the secrets behind Moldova’s stunning victory on the first day of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. Asked to comment ahead of his side’s match away to Hungary, Coach Gavril Balint stated:
They will entertain Hungary at the Wembley Stadium in an atmosphere which promises to be frustrating… thanks to likely boos from English supporters.
England had a really nice run in terms of results during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. But the momentum they built during that period counted for nothing in South Africa. The Three Lions’ adventure was a perfect nightmare.
Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard… the list of top rated English Premier League stars is long; the England team is actually a star-studded side aside from the fact that they are yet to find a top first choice keeper.
The English player of Trinidadian decent is one of the three new names called up by Coach Fabio Capello for this upcoming friendly match. Bobby Zamora was instrumental for Fulham last season, helping the London club to stun elites such as Juventus on their way to the final of the Europa League.
With Darren Bent pulling out of the Hungary friendly match through injury, Zamora could be given a bigger role and thus a bigger opportunity to make an impact upfront alongside fresh 2010 Community Shield winner Wayne Rooney.
Fulham manager Marc Hughes expressed his joy concerning Bobby Zamora's England call-up. He stated:
After tearing the Black Stars of Ghana apart on a 4-1 score line, the Dutch can now be proud of their current form going into the 2010 World Cup. The Netherlands remain unbeaten since April 2008 when they lost a friendly match to Australia. Just six days before South Africa and Mexico open this summer’s biggest even, the Oranje will terminate their preparations with a friendly match against Hungary.
Like they did against Ghana, the Netherlands will try to exhibit their attacking skills without using too much strength. History tells that since breaking the curse that prevent them from triumphing against Hungary between 1961 and 1984, the Netherlands recorded four wins out of four meetings against this opposition.
So the Germans have played only two friendlies this year. The first of those was back in March against Argentina where a terrible performance saw them deservedly lose 1-0 in the end. In the middle of the month of May though, Germany thrashed Malta 3-0 in a game that shouldn't have been lost either way, considering the potential of Malta.
Now against Hungary, the Germans' mission is not only to win but to prove that they can play as a team even without their injured captain Michael Ballack. Germany will be exposed to Hungary's thirst for success. After missing out from the 2010 World Cup finals, there is no other way to look but at qualifying for the 2012 European Championship tournament.
The Estadio da Luz will witness Euro 2004 runners-up Portugal host the 1938 and 1954 World Cup finalists Hungary.
Portugal and Hungary’s table status and comparisons
Both teams are currently out of the qualifying zone behind the leaders Denmark and second placed Sweden.
Portugal and Hungary are locked on 13 points from 8 games and the Portuguese only have their noses in front thanks to a better goal difference.
Hungary
Hungary’s hopes of qualifying to the World Cup remain alive despite losing 2-1 to Sweden on Saturday.
Though the Magical Magyars have failed to record a win in their last three international games, double wins over Albania and Malta previously look to have minimized the pressure.
Hungary hold a three-point advantage against fourth-placed Portugal with three more matches to go before the end of the campaign .
Hungary host sweden as they sit nicely in 2nd place in Group 1 of the 2010 World Cup UEFA qualifying. Both Sweden and Portugal are the only threats for Hungary securing 2nd place in group 1 and having a chance to advance to the World Cup 2010. A Hungary win against Sweden and a Portugal win against Denmark will result in a big shake up in the group, and leave Hungary sharing top spot in the group with Denmark. Sweden will be fighting for their survival and Hungary will have to defend as the coming...
