Liverpool will clash against Stoke City this weekend as their unbeaten run continues in the English Premier League. Steven Gerrard is looking for a victory following their recent draw.

Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium isn’t the best place for weakened teams to recharge their batteries. Arsenal and Manchester United can tell you just how much strength and luck is needed at times to triumph away to Stoke.
Now Liverpool are in a delicate situation presently, hanging on to their current top half position. Their defeat of Chelsea injected some much needed excitement among their supporters, but their very recent 1-1 draw away to Wigan Athletic has somehow brought disappointment once again.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, they couldn’t capitalize on Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland’s draw. Eventually, they still seat behind these two teams in 9th position with 16 points like 5 other English Premier League contenders.
Manchester United played out a disappointing goalless draw away to Manchester City in the English Premier League on Wednesday. Fergie has lamented the result ahead of the Aston Villa match.

Red Devils fans might have been disappointed about their team’s failure to snatch maximum points away from local rivals Manchester City. Considering the level of confidence that Coach Ferguson had shown ahead of that match through “insulting statements” from a City point of view, it was expected that Manchester United would pull out another “routine victory” against the Sky Blues on Wednesday night.
However, Roberto Mancini’s tactical choices didn’t let that happen – much to the dissatisfaction of Man United’s Alex Ferguson who didn’t hide his emotions while speaking to Sky Sports afterward.
“[Manchester] City are very difficult to beat on their own ground, and obviously, they set their stall out,” Ferguson declared.
It's been said that although Manchester United may be the most popular team in the world, they're not the most popular team in Manchester. That distinction, so the saying goes, belongs to United's local rivals, Manchester City.
As City supporters are quick to point out, United doesn't even play in Manchester, their home being located in the borough of Trafford.
There can be no doubt, however, that when Manchester football is mentioned it is the team in red that most people think of.
The rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City goes back a long way, almost as far back as the beginning of football in England. And the two clubs have been contesting a local derby, on and off, for nearly 130 years!
Read on for a brief history of the rivalry between the two big Manchester football clubs.
Manchester City’s supporters and directors have been mocked by Manchester United’s legendary coach Alex Ferguson ahead of tonight’s hot derby in the English Premier League.

The Sky Blues keep receiving a lot of attraction from football’s curious media and public since the club is benefiting from a financial revolution thanks to their current Arab owners. But Fergie claims not to be moved by the attention that surrounds Manchester United’s local rivals as what counts most – in the Scot’s opinion – is the glory achieved.
In an interview with The Mirror, Alex Ferguson publicly mocked billionaires Manchester City through harsh and sarcastic statements.
“I think that if you were to ask City’s supporters, they’d prefer to see a trophy paraded through the city before they start getting carried away,” the 1999 treble winning coach declared.
Pathetically, Arsenal failed make further steps towards the English Premier League title as the competition continues.

The Gunners suffered a 1-0 upset in the hands of Newcastle United, and they’ll be out to correct their mistakes on Wednesday night when they’ll play away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Speaking to Sky Sports, Arsenal’s Theo Walcott expressed his disappointment following last weekend’s defeat but above all, the player underlined the Wolverhampton Wanderers match as an opportunity to bounce back.
“Football’s a great game. You’ve got ups and downs, with clubs like us slipping up. However, there are plenty of teams in it, still,” Walcott stated after Arsenal’s defeat to Newcastle.
“But, we’re not going to look too far ahead. We just want to concentrate on every single game and take a step when we can.
As they’ll host Fulham on Wednesday, Chelsea are poised to get back to normal business. In order words, the Blues are expected to get back to winning ways.

They lost to Liverpool, but are still leading the way in the English Premier League. Chelsea have proven to be invincible at Stamford Bridge this season.
Five home matches, five home victories, 16 goals scored, and none allowed: that’s what statistics read at the envy of other clubs. So Chelsea’s defeat away to Liverpool isn’t something that will bother Coach Carlo Ancelotti too much as Sky Sports quoted him as saying on Sunday:
“We are still on top of the table [despite losing to Liverpool]. We don’t need to have a reaction. It’s impossible to win every game.
Who said the English Premier League's relegation zone was Liverpool’s home? After defeating Chelsea, the Reds are looking forward to a brighter future ahead of the Wigan Athletic match.

This is a game that Liverpool are supposed to win – considering comparisons between both teams’ caliber. But nowadays, anyone would tell you that anything could happen – especially since Liverpool are going through tough moments.
Indeed, we’ve seen the Merseyside Reds dropping points against lower oppositions such as Blackpool, Sunderland or even Birmingham. However, Liverpool's recent victory over rivals Chelsea and their recent record of four consecutive victories in all competitions are two things that seem to reveal one thing:
Liverpool are back and now strong enough to make it through the rain as they never walk alone.
Chelsea’s Florent Malouda has made a quick return to fitness after twisting his ankle lately. Now the French international is set to face Liverpool this weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti spoke about his Chelsea squad in terms of team news ahead of the match which will take place on Sunday. The Italian manager confirmed Frank Lampard’s absence and Florent Malouda’s quick recovery, but he tipped Essien as doubtful during an interview. ESPN Soccernet quoted Ancelotti as saying:
“I can give you nine men: Cech, Ivanovic, Alex, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Zhirkov, Anelka and Drogba. Malouda or Kalou, Essien or Ramires.
“But we have a little problem with Essien. We’re not sure if he’ll be fit Sunday. He has a problem on his toe. Well, it’s a little problem and I hope he’ll be available to play.
Arsenal will entertain West Ham United in the English Premier League on Saturday and the Gunners’ mission is to keep firing on their opponents as Djourou wants it.

Arsenal are second in the standings but the gap between them and Chelsea is of 5 points. Anymore slip-up will once again dent their chances of winning the English Premier League title at last, and defender Djourou is aware of the importance of matches such as Saturday’s one against West Ham.
As he assessed the Gunners’ chances of winning the league, the player told the club’s official website:
“It is true that you need to get the most points out of those games [against lesser teams], because these are the games that can finish your season.
Oh well, it certainly already is a saga… The media and the public are all over matters surrounding Manchester United, Alex Ferguson, and Wayne Rooney.

It would take a miracle for the Old Scot to silence the voices of all concerned people who keep arguing, predicting, gossiping, and analyzing what can now be called “The Wayne Rooney Saga”. From the public’s point of view, it all started with the news that Roo had cheated on his wife Coleen.
Attention from the media on the English striker immediately increased and his recent performances on pitch failed to hit back at the idea that quickly grew among Manchester United fans and other interested football fans and pundits: Wayne Rooney can’t take it anymore at Old Trafford.
Well the 24-year-old didn’t take long to admit that life at Manchester United has become unbearable for him – both as a player on the pitch and as a person off the pitch.
At last, there’s good news for Liverpool… and it’s on the injury front! The Reds will welcome back Fernando Torres and Paul Konchesky for Sunday’s match against Everton.

Shifting our attention on matters off court issues surrounding Liverpool, Coach Roy Hodgson has declared that Spanish attacker Fernando Torres has beaten the clock to be fit in time to face the Merseyside Reds’ local rivals, Everton. The match is meant to receive a lot of attention from the media and the public – considering the administrational situation of Liverpool which adds to fierce atmosphere created by the rivalry between these two teams.
“Konchesky has made a good recovery as has Fernando Torres. So, all being well, we can welcome those two back,” Roy Hodgson declared at the relief of anxious Liverpool fans.
“Fernando’s season needs to kick start. He has been hampered a bit by injuries, and what happened at the World Cup. We see a livelier and a better Fernando every day.
Manchester United’s injury-plagued Owen Hargreaves has promised to retire from football should he fail to come back from injury on October 26 as doctors have predicted.

It’s been two years now since Owen Hargreaves has been suffering on the sidelines. One of his last moments under Manchester United’s red jersey include a memorable free-kick goal which he scored against Arsenal back in April 2008 as his side went on to win the match 2-1 and later win the English Premier League title as well.
His last start for Manchester United was a couple of years ago, in September. After undergoing treatment to cure tendinitis in his two knees, doctors claim the English midfielder could return to action late in October as the Red Devils will fact Wolves in the Carling Cup.
It isn’t the first time that Owen Hargreaves has tried to make a comeback, but all of his attempts so far have been unsuccessful.
Inter Milan are already thinking about the January transfer window. The Italian giants want Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, according to local reports.

There’s a huge belief that the captain of the Gunners will not be seen at the Emirates next season following the transfer saga which involved Barcelona earlier this summer. It’s all but clear that Cesc Fabregas is hoping to quit Arsenal in the near future, and Champions League titleholders Inter Milan want the player’s departure from London to come up quicker than expected.
According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, the Nerazzurri are looking to capture the services of the Spanish midfielder in January. Napoli’s ex-chief, Pierpaolo Marino, was quoted as saying by the Italian media source:
“If [Coach] Benitez convinces his directors to listen, then two big transfers which didn’t work out in August could be ignited this time out. I’m talking about Fabregas of Arsenal [and Dirk Kuyt of Liverpool].”
The Chelsea vs Arsenal match will rock the English Premier League this weekend. According to Florent Malouda, the Gunners will be tough…
The confirmed absence of Arsenal’s injured captain Cesc Fabregas and goalkeeper Almunia has come out as good news to Chelsea fans. However, Florent Malouda still expects Arsene Wenger’s men to pose a big threat. After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City with the Blues, the French man has urged his team to prepare for the battle against the Gunners.
“We have to be in control, to put the ace into the game, and to focus on our game,” Malouda told talkSPORT.
“For them [Arsenal], it’s an away game, and many times, we’ve seen teams coming here and trying to close the game. Arsenal have always played the same way: a passing game.
Anti-Manchester City fans will have an evil smile at the news that the Sky Blues have recorded a huge financial loss.
Billionaires City spent massively on wages… actually, too much! The Red Devils’ city rivals experienced a huge financial boost since Sheikh Mansour bought the club.
Important arrangements involving sponsorship and season ticket sales deals saw Manchester City’s income increase from £87M to £125M. However, the club went over the £125M mark as they spent as much as £133M on wages for new players such as Yaya Toure, Mario Balotelli, and James Milner.
Now Manchester City’s Chief executive Garry Cook has come out to declare that the club won’t repeat this sort of massive spending on the transfer market again. ESPN quoted Cook as saying:
Manchester City face Chelsea in a vital match this weekend. Now defender Nigel de Jong has urged fans to be City’s 12th man.

The Dutch wants the home crowd to produce the kind of atmosphere that will lift the Sky Blues spirit to conquer Chelsea’s blue heaven. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have been enjoying a great start to the English Premier League so far and goals haven’t lacked either. But last season’s corresponding fixture saw them lose 2-1 away to Manchester City and that’s a result Nigel de Jong wants his side to reproduce this weekend.
Although many think that the Sky Blues have practically no chance to upset their rivals from London, defender Nigel de Jong thinks that supporters could well play a major role for City to clinch all three points. As he expressed himself on his club’s official website, the Dutch declared:
“Fans can do a lot for us. At home, they can be the 12th man from start to finish. That will help enormously. We expect a lot of them tomorrow.”
Monday September 20 2010,
Arsenal suffered a setback against Sunderland on Saturday while Chelsea continue to rampage through lesser opposition and Manchester United and Liverpool meanwhile renewed their rivalry.

A four point lead at the top gives Chelsea some breathing room, while Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger continues to bemoan the officiating and the tactics of the competition.
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has all but conceded his team’s chances at winning the league while Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will need to shore up his defense if he hopes to challenge Chelsea for the title.
Carlos Tevez inspired Manchester City to shrug off their sluggish start to the season as Roberto Mancini's men were helped on their way by a pair of defensive errors.
In this report:
United seek three significant points to get their campaign back on track. Depending on whom you speak to in regards to which club in England is the bigger derby match for Manchester United, most will say that Liverpool FC is the top of the lot.
By Scott Hansen.

Forget Manchester City for a minute on Sunday when Manchester United desperately needs three points more-so than in any other Liverpool fixture in recent memory.
The way Liverpool have performed under new manager Roy Hodgson should suggest that three points are possible for United, but do not underestimate the momentum shift three points could provide for Liverpool.
It is still early days as the three clubs race to catch defending Premiership winners Chelsea to make the famed English “top four”.
Liverpool supporters must feel odd to be on the outside looking in on Champions League football and are desperate to regain their stranglehold on a top four spot. The last season under Rafa Benitez saw Liverpool fall behind Tottenham, who hijacked the final Champions League spot from big-spenders Liverpool and Manchester City.
It’s Manchester United vs Liverpool at Old Trafford in the English Premier League on Sunday. It’s third vs thirteenth, Berba vs Cole, and more…

1) Manchester United vs Liverpool: What Do Their English Premier League Statistic Reveal?
The Red Devils haven’t lost a game in all competitions so far this season, but this record is not enough to put them on top of the English Premier League. With two wins and two draws, Manchester United are third behind untouchable reigning champions Chelsea and second-placed Arsenal. Interestingly, Manchester United aren’t suffering from a goal crisis as it used to be the case a few seasons ago.
However, it’s their defense and their mental state perhaps that need to come under scrutiny. Aside from beating both Newcastle United and West Ham United 3-0 on match-day one and match-day three respectively, the Red Devils have been vulnerable in the latter stages of their matches against Fulham and Everton.
Brazil’s 2010 World Cup squad contained no English Premier League-based player. Now new AC Milan signing Robinho has come out to side with most people’s opinion: Brazilians usually don’t shine in the England because English football isn’t for them.
When Robinho made his surprise switch from Real Madrid to Manchester City, the forward was meant to take the Sky Blues by storm. In his first interview as a Manchester City player, the Brazilian international made the mistake of replacing his new club’s name with “Chelsea” – a side he wanted to join in a “dream move” during his last “tough days” as a Real Madrid player.
Sky Blues supporters got perplexed only for City’s biggest ever signing to reassure them with words marking his commitment to the team. As football pundits had tipped the ex-Real Madrid star to rock the English Premier League with his samba moves, Robinho went as far as infuriating Cristiano Ronaldo fans by challenging his rival in terms of stardom, performance and success.
According to the Brazilian play maker, Manchester City were the perfect club to help him achieve his dream of ranking among football’s greatest legend.
