A spectacular strike from Matias Alustiza two minutes from full-time was worthy of the title.
Deportivo Quito obtained the Ecuadorian championship after defeating Emelec 1-0 at the Olimpico Atahualpa stadium in Quito on Friday. Their latest title triumph was the fifth in their history, after the ones they claimed in 1964, 1968, 2008 and 2009.
Having won the first leg of the final 1-0 with a goal from Fidel Martinez in Guayaquil, Deportivo Quito repeated the feat at home with a strike from Matias Alustiza two minutes from full-time for a comfortable 2-0 aggregate victory over the two legs.
Backed by the majority of the 35,000 fans in the stadium, Deportivo Quito dominated their opponents for great part of the match, but especially after Eduardo Morante was sent off in the 53rd minute for a second bookable offense.
Edison Mendez and Christian Benitez led Ecuador to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Peru in Quito.

Ecuador defeated Peru 2-0 in Quito with second-half goals from Edison Mendez and Christian Benitez. With the win Ecuador moved within one point of South American World Cup qualifying group leaders Uruguay.
The match lacked excitement at the beginning, as both teams were locked in the midfield and hardly created any decent goal-scoring opportunities. Ecuador's best chance to find the back of the net arrived five minutes before the half-time break, but midfielder Segundo Castillo couldn't beat Peru goalkeeper Raul Fernandez.
Peru came more into the game towards the end of the half, and almost went ahead with good efforts from Juan Vargas and Jefferson Farfan, two of their most dangerous players. Other than that they were restricted to long-range shots on goal.
Peru's 'fantastic four' will intend to inflict a rare home defeat upon Ecuador in the altitude of Quito on Tuesday.

Both Ecuador and Peru will be after the three points when they clash in Round 4 of the South American 2014 World Cup qualifiers at the Olimpico Atahualpa stadium in Quito on Tuesday. Both teams have started their campaigns with mixed results and will be looking for a boosting win that would steer them closer towards group leaders Uruguay.
Having narrowly missed out on the 2010 World Cup, Ecuador are desperate to return to the world stage and in order to achieve this they know that they have to continue to win their home games. Having beaten Venezuela comfortably in Quito in their opening World Cup qualifier, Ecuador are well aware that they are capable of inflicting defeat upon the Peruvians as well.
Paraguay record their first three points of the qualifiers with narrow win over Ecuador in Asuncion.

Paraguay defeated Ecuador 2-1 on Friday to record their first three points of their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asuncion.
After a slow and rather ordinary start to the match, as the minutes ticked by Paraguay came more and more into the match, controlling their rivals with dominant passing and aggressive soccer.
Ecuador looked switched off, however, each time Antonio Valencia moved forward he created problems for the Paraguay defense. The Manchester United winger looked very dangerous in an attacking sense, however, often he was provided with little help from his team-mates.
Paraguay will be after their first victory of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador in Asuncion.

Paraguay take on Ecuador in Round 3 of the 2014 South American World Cup qualifiers, with the clear objective to claim the first three points of their campaign. La Albiroja didn't get off to the best start last month, having debuted with a 2-0 defeat to Peru in Lima, before scoring a late equaliser to force a 1-1 draw with Uruguay in Asuncion.
Due to those results, Francisco Arce, the new coach of Paraguay, will be obligated to secure a victory against Ecuador. Paraguay have consolidated themselves as one of South America's strongest sides over the years, much due to their hard-working attitude. In the 2010 World Cup, which was their fourth successive appearance on soccer's most important stage, they reached the quarter-finals only to be defeated by eventual world champions Spain.
Ecuador handed the USA a 1-0 defeat at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday night.

Jaime Ayovi scored the decisive goal for Ecuador when he rose above defender Tim Ream to head home a cross from his cousin Walter Ayovi.
The result leaves USA head coach Jurgen Klinsmann with just one win from his first five games in charge, and with a goals scored tally of two in five. His teams offensive inability must be of huge concern for Klinsmann who is noted for his attacking style of play.
The Americans started with a front pair of Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey, but the pair were bottled up very well by the Ecuador defensive pairing of Fricson Erazo and Eduardo Morante.
The first half saw both defenses very much on top, with the first clear chance coming as Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero skipped past Steve Cherundolo before firing wide.
The USA will play host to Ecuador in an international friendly at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday night.

USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann earned his first win against Honduras over the weekend, but will face stronger opposition here.
New Jersey native Tim Howard will play in goal for the USA in his home state, while Tim Ream will be hoping to start his first game for Klinsmann in his home stadium.
If Ream does earn a start, he is expected to be partnered by Oguchi Onyewu. Red Bull forward Juan Agudelo could also feature for the States, while Clint Dempsey should continue in midfield after scoring the winning goal against Honduras.
Timmy Chandler could play at left back for the USA, and would face a stiff challenge in the form of Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia.
First half goals from Jaime Ayovi and Christian Benitez gave Ecuador a winning debut against Venezuela.

Ecuador kicked off their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign with a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Venezuela at the Atahualpa stadium in Quito. The Ecuadorians proved much too strong for a young Venezuela side that clearly felt the effects of playing 2,850 metres above sea level.
Jaime Ayovi and Christian Benitez scored first half goals to give Ecuador three points on their highly anticipated debut. Reinaldo Rueda's side put on an exciting attacking display for the 44,000 fans that filled the stadium to its capacity.
Venezuela travel to the altitude of Quito for their opening 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on Friday.

For years Venezuela have been considered South America's weakest national team, however, the level of their soccer has improved significantly over the last decade, and they will be hoping to start off on the right note when they travel to Ecuador to face the hosts in their opening 2014 World Cup qualifier on Friday.
Venezuela know that playing 2,850 metres above sea level is quite a challenge, and in order to acclimatise themselves to the difficult conditions they decided to arrive in Ecuador five days before the match. The road to Brazil is no straightforward task, and this is the reason why the Venezuelans have planned things very carefully this time around.
Brazil will face an Ecuador side without the likes of Antonio Valencia…

Finally, Argentina overcame their first round exit woes by winning when it counted the most. They thrashed Costa Rica 3-0 to win quarter-finals tickets and are now waiting to know their upcoming opponents between Chile, Peru and Uruguay.
In the meantime, everyone’s attention has turned to Brazil’s 2011 Copa America campaign. The Seleçao are also expected to emulate foes Argentina by reaching the next stage of the tournament despite stumbling to 2 draws so far.
The Brazilians have also received some kind of boost since Ecuador have been hit with a very bad news. Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia has been ruled out of tomorrow night’s clash. Doctor Patricio Maldonado confirmed the fact by telling reporters:
Can Ecuador make the night of July 13 a “black day” in Brazil’s history of football?

Brazil are in urgent need to bounce back against Ecuador under intense pressure from the annoyed local media. The Selecção haven’t managed to impress the public at all. Ahead of the tournament, Neymar and Ganso had been tipped to take the stage by storm through the help of older chaps like Robinho and Dani Alves.
However, the Santos duo is yet to click with the rest of the squad. Individually, none of Brazil’s players have been good enough while coach Mano Menezes seems to have no creative touch from the touchline. Mano’s 4-2-1-3 formation has actually failed to dominate oppositions and it remains to be seen how Brazil will approach the game against Ecuador besides their will to go all out on the offensive.
Suddenly, it looks as if there are no favorites in Group B despite the inclusion of Brazil and Paraguay.

Still boasting about their 0-0 draw against Brazil, Venezuela are eying another positive result against Ecuador. And who’s your money on?
Note that the Ecuadorians are praying for some good news over the injury case of star Antonio Valencia. The Manchester United winger had to miss training on Monday as coach Reinaldo Rueda told The Associated Press:
“For now, we cannot count on him. We'll get more information later. We hope to have him, but we have to wait to see how serious it is.”
Meanwhile, Venezuela are planning to win at last as Cesar Farias told Canal 7 last weekend:
Group B contenders must pay 5000 dollars and lose two Fair Play qualification points for their delay in the opening game

Based on Raul Orozco's and Sergio Pezzotta's report, CONMEBOL's Disciplinary Comittee warned three members of Group B for "delaying the start of the second half". warning that "more drastic sanctions could be taken" if the teams showed up late in the next game.
But if CONMEBOL is determined to hold all Copa Libertadores games in due time and proper course, why didn't they fine Neymar and Venezuela's coach Cesar Farias as they came to blows at the end of the first half?
I'm not saying CONMEBOL should support such behavior, but I believe a warning would have been more fitting.
Paraguay and Ecuador will close Group B’s match-day 1 action with an evening kick-off at the Estadio Brigadier General Estanislao Lopez in Santa Fe.

And who knows if the referee won’t steal the show? Sergio Pezzotta, who is set to officiate the encounter in Santa Fe, is known as one of the AFA’s most severe referees. In a blunt quote to Argentina newspaper La Nacion, Pezzotta once stated the following:
“I watch European football and the level of refereeing is lower. It is allowed to play very aggressively.
“Here I think, generally speaking, the level is good. We are always going to make mistakes; they are part of the game. They have to be reduced though.”
The Manchester United winger can be devastating when on song and Ecuador will certainly be depending on him for ammunition from midfield.
Destiny's Child
He used to play barefoot in the dusty pitch next to his home in Ecuador. Antonio Valencia completed a total transformation by being the first Ecuadorian to win the English Premier League title as Manchester United won a record 19th title in the recently concluded season. For a man that was deemed to not be good enough for Villareal, the former Wigan man has been a pure inspiration to watch with his tireless runs down the flanks.
He left home at the age of 16 to a place that only his mum and brother knew. All for the sake of football and El Nacional became his first club. Starting originally as a central midfielder, impressive performances pushed him further up the ranks and he was eventually introduced into the Under-20 team where he starred alongside Christian "Chucho" Benitez in a more advanced role upfront. His talents were definitely being monitored by European Clubs and soon enough, Villareal came calling in.

Copa America
Live Soccer TV builds up to the Copa America by providing a quick look at how things could unfold during the group stages.
It's the most important football event in Latin America. And this time around, it's Argentina's turn to host and provide all those excitement and passion that the Copa America has duly done all the time. Follow us on Live Soccer TV as we provide you with a quick look and predictions of what might unfold during the group stages.
GROUP A
A group made up of Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia and Costa Rica doesn't sound too intriguing but indeed there's a lot to offer in Group A. The host nation will certainly head the lot as favorites to top the group while Bolivia do not have the talent to match the rest in the group- leaving them to battle for pride.
Live Soccer continues the Pre-Tournament Tour ahead of the Copa America and this time around, we head to Ecuador!
Led by President Rafael Correa, Ecuador is one of only two nations that doesn't have a border with Brazil in South America. The country, which sits in between Peru and Colombia, is also one of the 17 'megadiverse' countries in the world- all due to its different species of flora and fauna.
But once again, the main topic in the streets go back to the sport that captivates their majority of medium-income citizens: football. The capital of Ecuador, Quito is a World Heritage Site after being declared as such by UNESCO back in the 1970s.
One of the unique aspects of this city is that it's one of the best kept historical site in South America. Quito is also known as 'Carita de Deos' (The Face of God), which comes from it's majestic religious architecture and structures in a fantastic Andes landscape.
Colombia celebrated a clear victory in New Jersey against a rival that could never become a real threat. Giovanni Moreno missed a penalty shot at the beginning of the second half.

The game didn't offer much excitement until the last minutes, when both teams decided to fight for the victory. Oporto's striker Radamel Falcao Garcia score the winning goal on the 87th minute to give Hernan Gomez's boys an important victory preluding next year's Copa America's fight.
Colombia might have not made enough merits to claim the victory, but their excellent defensive work coupled with their tireless offense finally granted Colombia the full scoring. Hernan Gomez celebrates once again victory over Reinaldo Rueda, now sitting on the opposing bench. John Restrepo and Jonh Viáfara were the stars of the game, denying Ecuador's every attempt against Colombia's goal.
Now Colombia plays the United States on Friday while Ecuador visits Montreal to take on Poland.
Two absentees in South Africa play against each other to sharpen their weapons for the Copa America 2011.

Ecuador and Colombia travel to New Jersey with many surprises in both teams. Colombia's coach Reinaldo Rueda and his rival Hernan Gomez bring the morbid element to the game, for their past links them both with their opponents. Ivan Cordoba and Antonio Valencia are the great two absents in this American clash.
Tricolor's coach Rueda declared "This game is very important for both sides, this is our chance to show what we've been working on, and I believe we're doing it well". He has introduced major modifications in Ecuador's formation, and it is yet to see whether they will pay off or not.
Ecuador's offense has relied heavily in the last few years on Antonio Valencia's unchallenged speed, but Manchester's electric midfielder is ruled out with injuries. Jairo Campos is unlikely to be part of the starting squqad. Finding the right alternative for these aggressive midfielders should be team's coach main objective for this game.
Wednesday evening marks the end of South America’s World Cup qualifying campaign. It will be D-Day for the Ecuadorians who will play against already-qualified Chile at the Nacional in Santiago.
Ecuador’s match against the Chileans promises to be a mouthwatering clash, especially because the Ecuadorians are behind Argentina and Uruguay who will lock horns in another decisive match on Wednesday.
Ecuador’s table status and statistical analysis
Ecuador are sixth in the table with twenty-three points. In contrast to the Uruguayans who are one point above them, the Ecuadorians have a negative goal difference.
This means that a draw will surely not be enough even if Uruguay lose to Argentina. A win for the Ecuadorians is the only solution for the country to have a chance of qualifying into the finals of the World Cup.
