How Italy qualified for Euro 2012
The Azzurri went through the qualifiers under a lot of pressure following the country’s poor showing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Prandelli took matters in his own hands and led Italy to Euro 2012 without experiencing defeat.
Remarkably, the Azzurri conceded only 2 goals in over 900 minutes of Euro 2012 qualification football. Their campaign was marked by ugly scenes when Italy hosted Serbia in Genoa on October 12. Crowd violence from a minor group of hooligans saw the match abandoned. The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body handed an automatic 3-0 win forfeit win to the Italians.
Unbeaten Italy have the wonderful opportunity of sealing qualification to the Euros in Fiorentina where Cesare Prandelli used to coach as La Viola’s manager. In an interview with Rai Sport, the Italy boss was quoted as saying:
After doing just enough to defeat Slovenia in the Euro 2012 qualifiers last weekend, Cesare Prandelli has allowed himself to make quite a number of changes ahead of the friendly match against Ukraine. The Italy coach will have Maggio, Viviano, Gastaldello, Criscito, Chiellini, Montolivo, Marchisio, Aquilani, Rossi and Gilardino lined up as starters on Tuesday. Among these 11 players, Gilardino has been chosen to as the skipper and this decision from the manager has apparently moved him.
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has requested Cassano and Pazzini to improve their individual performances for Italy and play at their level best in the Euro 2012 qualifying match against Slovenia today. Even though Prandelli stressed on the importance of teamwork, he also stated that the duo should not try to 'overdo' things for the team.

Mario Balotelli joined Internazionale in 2007 after an unsuccessful trial at Barcelona. He experienced a big fail with his disciplinary record after Roberto Mancini’s departure as the Nerazzurri’s coach and endured a sour relationship with Jose Mourinho.
Miroslav Klose gave Germany the lead on the 16th minute and they looked almost certain to win the game until Giuseppe Rossi popped up with an equalizer with 10 minutes remaining.
The former Fiorentina manager will be leading Italy in a competitive encounter for the first time since replacing the disgraced Marcello Lippi. All eyes are on the coach to start business on a good note as the Azzurri are desperate to find back the respect they used to enjoy.
During the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the Italians didn’t manage a single victory and their performance was well below their fans’ expectations. Cesare Prandelli has been given the task to put things right and this is what he had to say to the media during a press conference:
Inter Milan and AS Roma will clash in the Italian Super Cup on Saturday, and the former Fiorentina coach has explained how the team from the country’s capital could trouble the domestic and European champions. Like the Community Shield in England has proven itself to be since the past three years, the result between Inter Milan and AS Roma this weekend might have a great impact on the 2010/2011 Italian Seria A season which will get underway next week.
Briefly making his point, Cesare Prandelli explained while speaking to La Stampa:
