Although Benfica already guaranteed a 33rd league title, when these two sides meet, neither side is willing to concede. Watch live as these two rivals conclude another emotional campaign in the Portuguese League.

Preview: A classico that has a very different feeling to it

In normal circumstances, when Porto and Benfica meet, it generally attracts all the attention for at least a week leading up to the match. This time around, although Benfica takes on Porto at the Estádio do Dragão on Saturday evening, not much is being said about this fixture.

A match with not much meaning in terms of league standings happens often in the last fixture of the season. But for Benfica, it is not that often that they get to take on Porto knowing that despite the result, they are already league champions.

Having won the Portuguese League followed by the Taça da Liga on Wednesday against Rio Ave, Jorge Jesus is now focused on his club’s next big match. But before their mid-week clash with Sevilla in the Europa League final, Benfica travels to the north of Portugal, where they emerged victorious not too long ago.

These two sides last met in the Taça da Liga semifinal, when Benfica held onto a scoreless draw with just 10 men, going on to eliminate the Dragões in a penalty shootout.

Porto will now want to seek revenge on their rivals, although a victory will not have much meaning. Playing in front of their fans and in a historic rivalry like this one, neither side will want to concede, although Benfica will field a number of less utilized players.

Some of Porto’s players seem to have checked out mentally weeks ago. But despite their struggles this season, they still have 90 more minutes of football to play.

In the president’s luxury box will be Porto’s next manager, former Spain under-21 manager Julen Lopetegui. Porto’s president announced earlier this week that the Spaniard would be the club’s manager next season, and he will take advantage of this normally heated affair to have a look at some of his future players.

Ricardo Quaresma and Josue are set to return to the squad, as is Alex Sandro. A surprise in the lot of players selected is Mikel, who has spent the season on Porto’s B team.

It will be difficult to motivate the Porto players after their frustrating campaign, but when these two sides meet, there normally does not need to be much on the line.

The visitors will likely showcase a number of younger faces, as they prepare for their second Europa League final in as many years. Players from the B team such as João Cancelo and Bruno Varela will be options for Jorge Jesus on Saturday.

Canadian born Steven Vitoria, who was sent off in Benfica’s match with Porto in the Taça da Liga will also get a chance to earn himself the needed minutes in a league match, to be officially crowned a champion.

Fans will be excited for this Clasico, but the lack of attention it is getting from the media is a clear indication that it will not have that same fire and passion behind it from all parties involved. With that said, neither side will want to lose, and although Benfica has made some changes, they have already defeated Porto three times this season, and they would love to deal them a fourth blow on Saturday evening.
