A few days after surprisingly demolishing Bayern Munich 4-0 to reach the UEFA Champions League final, Real Madrid will welcome Valencia at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid vs ValenciaPreview: More troubles for wounded Valencia?

Barcelona failed to defeat Getafe on Saturday. Goals from Lionel Messi and Alexis Sanchez offered the hosts a 2-1 lead but Lafita had the last word. He completed a stunning brace in added time to cut the Catalans’ points to one.

Real Madrid will be hoping to take advantage of their bitter rivals’ slip and join them in second position with 85 points and a game in hand. However, this would require Los Blancos to claim their fifth consecutive league victory since stumbling to an embarrassing 2-1 loss away to Sevilla.

A late goal by Jese was needed for the Spanish giants to defeat Valencia 3-2 at the Mestalla Stadium before the Christmas break. This time around, Jese cannot play as he is recovering from a long term injury.

The home crowd will be hoping to witness a less dramatic encounter as Real Madrid aim to add salt to Valencia’s wounds. Los Che were dumped out of the Europa League in a heart-breaking manner on Thursday. A late strike by Sevilla’s Mbia denied them from reaching the final of the tournament on away goals. If Valencia want to find consolation at the Bernabeu, they will have a huge mountain to climb.

Diego Lopez went through the month of April without conceding a goal in La Liga. Carlo Ancelotti will keep faith in the January 2013 signing and play him in post on Sunday. This will be Lopez’s penultimate game of the season.

His next one will be against Celta Vigo on May 11 as Ancelotti has confirmed that Iker Casillas will warm up for the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League final by playing against Real Valladolid and Espanyol on Matchday 36 and Matchday 38.
