After sustaining an injury during his club’s 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their 2013/14 Champions League quarter final tie at Santiago Bernabeu, it was announced that Cristiano Ronaldo would have to settle for a place on the substitutes bench during the second tie at Signal-Iduna Park on April 8, 2014.

The forward only lasted 15 minutes of their pre-game training, and with Real Madrid having recorded a 3-0 advantage, there seemed to be no reason to risk their talisman. He would however be introduced if need arose.

On the side of the Black and Yellows, top forward Robert Lewandowski, the man who netted a glorious hat trick versus Madrid last term, returns to the line up.
