Preview: A tight encounter on the cards
Manchester City are eying the quadruple and their first chance to win a cup this season has come. Goalkeeper Joe Hart did not quite impress against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last month and will understandably be replaced by Costel Pantilimon.
“When managers have got decisions to make, whether it benefits me or not, I have to be man enough to take it,” Hart explained before adding:
“I work hard every day to win and I understand it doesn't always go my way and you have to move forward.”
It remains to be seen whether Manuel Pellegrini’s decision will pay off. The biggest team news in City’s camp is that Sergio Aguero has recovered from injury and is expected to play a role this Sunday.
Meanwhile, Gus Poyet has expressed his desire to conquer the blue side of Manchester after triumphing in an epic penalty shoot-out at Old Trafford in the previous round. “If we're going to go there just to defend and wait and pray for something to happen, it's not us,” he told BBC Sport.
“We don't have that quality and then it's going to be impossible because Manchester City are just going to come and come. We need to play a very good game and hope that City are not on an exceptional day and then we've got a chance.”
The Black Cats may have transformed into huge beasts following their victory over giants Manchester United in the semi-finals. Favourites Manchester City would be wrong to ignore their opponents’ strengths. Interestingly, Sunderland have a rather good record against the Citizens.
Within the last couple of years, both sides have engaged in six meetings – five times in the English Premier League and once in a club friendly. In competitive fixtures, four clean sheets have been recorded – three of those by the underdogs.
