Preview: More misery for the Black Cats?

After their awful display in a 3-1 home loss to Bayern Munich, many tipped Manchester City to fail again in the UEFA Champions League. However, they responded well with vital wins over CSKA Moscow to reach the Last 16 of the tournament.

“It’s a big achievement for the club because this is the first time we’ve gone beyond the group stages so we’re really happy, but there is still a long way to go,” midfielder Samir Nasri told the club's official website.

“Now we’ll focus on the Premier League but on paper, we have as much quality as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and [Manchester] United.”

The Citizens will have to prove that they have enough quality to win silverware this season. They have lost three times already in the league but will be confident of clinching their seventh win of the campaign at the Stadium of Light. 

Manchester City are in top form and they have been scoring goals for fun lately, thanks to the great partnership between Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero. The latter won the Premier League Player of the Month award on Friday and is poised to find the net against Sunderland.

In the corresponding fixture last season, former City boy Adam Johnson scored the winning goal for the hosts. The visitors went home with no point in the bag despite enjoying 67 per cent of ball possession. How likely are eighteenth-placed Sunderland to stun the Citizens again?
