Last season’s Euro Cup winners Chelsea welcome newly promoted Cardiff City to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, the 19th of October 2013.

Chelsea will play at home to Cardiff City on October 19, 2013.Preview: Chelsea look to extend unbeaten run at home

The Blues have won all three of their home league games this season and have also won 10 of their 13 games at home in 2013. Another interesting fact pertaining to Chelsea’s record at home is the that the Pensioners have scored twice in all of their three home league games and have conceded just once which was in their match against Aston Villa.

Chelsea currently third in the league table, come into this game at the back of a good run of form having won four out of their last five matches in all competitions. In their last outing against Norwich, Mourinho’s men scored a 3-1 victory over the Canaries. Oscar’s opener was cancelled out by Anthon Pilkington, before Eden Hazard and Willian added goal apiece to win the tie for the Blues.

Chelsea undisputed number one Petr Cech is set to represent his club for the 300th time in the Premier League, with teammates John Terry and Frank Lampard the only other players to have achieved this feat.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping for more contributions from his strikers with none of his three centre forwards Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o yet off the mark despite hitting the target with 41% of their 22 shots. With all of his three front men underperforming, an injury to Andre Schurrle will add to Mourinho’s misery.

The 22 year olds hat-trick against Sweden inspired a comeback as Germany defeated their counterparts 5-3, unfortunately for Chelsea the former Leverkusen man returned to London with a knock.

Cardiff City on the other hand have had a mixed start to their debut Premier League season. Despite scoring an emphatic victory over Manchester City earlier in the season the Bluebirds have only notched up eight points in the seven games they have played so far.

Malky Mackay whose side have managed only a single clean sheet this season in a match against Everton will have to sort out his defence which has leaked nine goals in the league so far. He will be hoping for his side to bounce back from a 2-1 loss against Newcastle United last time out when Loic Remy’s brace in the first half deprived the Bluebirds of any points despite a second-half strike from Peter Odemwingie.

Cardiff have no new injury concerns but summer signing Andreas Cornelius will continue to nurse his knee injury.

Chelsea on the other hand will be without their young midfielder Marko Van Ginkel who has been ruled out for the entire season. The blues will also be without full back Ashley Cole who has struggled to recover from a rib injury, whereas Fernando Torres returns to the side recovering from the knee injury he suffered against Steaua Bucharest.
