Preview: Mario Balotelli will miss out as AC Milan take on his former club
Never knowing what to expect from AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli is what makes matches like these interesting to watch. Getting a chance to go up against his former employer would likely spark additional motivation into the Italian, but it appears that he will miss out on this match due to his participation in the Confederations Cup.
His former club will arrive at the Allianz Arena fresh off a title in Asia, where Manuel Pellegrini's side had to endure some poor field conditions, defeating South China and English Premier League side Sunderland.
The Citizens have really hit the transfer market in the last month, which has Pellegrini and City fans hopeful that they can reclaim the EPL Title. In order to build that chemistry between the existing and new players, pre-season matches against top clubs will be a big factor.
Having already taken part in four pre-season matches, City will be up against an Italian side that is coming off a win against Valencia in their last friendly match.
Missing Balotelli's eye for goal could hurt the Rossoneri in the final third, going up against a very talented City side.
One thing Milan's players and fans will not miss is the memories they have created at this tournament in the past. The Italian side has come in fourth place in their last two participations in the Audi Cup, so anything other than last place will be an added bonus this time around.
Knowing that Balotelli will be missing in action allows the City back line to breathe a sigh of relief. Unfortunately for AC Milan, they will not be able to do the same as the City front line looks very strong, and with all their creativity going forward, Italian keeper Abbiati could be in for a very busy outing.
