After proving his worth at Fiorentina, Stefan Jovetic is exactly the kind of player Manchester City need to bolster their squad.
The cash-laden English Premier League giants continue their extravagant spending in the transfer market after securing the services of Stefan Jovetic from Fiorentina. The young Montenegrin will be given the number 35 shirt and was initially, linked with a move for Juventus who chose to sign Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente instead.

A natural second striker, Jovetic scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 31 Serie A appearances for La Viola last season and almost helped them secure a place in the Champions League qualification berth.

Though he might not be a prolific scorer, Jovetic thrives in a withdrawn role where he has the ability to play one-twos and make space for either an exquisite pass or a shot from outside the box. The youngster is a very gifted passer and has the ability to pick out a teammate which simply bodes well for Manchester City who would take all the creativity they are given.

Before the youngster arrived in Manchester, Manuel Pellegrini had acquired the services of Alvaro Negredo and it is very likely to see the Chilean tactician deploy a 4-2-2-2 formation in order to get the best out of Negredo, Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Jesus Navas.

The signing of “JoJo” means that the Citizens are crowded in the forward department, with Aguero, Negredo, Edin Dzeko and young Swedish starlet, John Guidetti. And due to the selection dilemma, Pellegrini might opt for the 4-2-3-1 system which he put to effective use at Malaga last season.

Silva was pretty decent down the left-flank last season while Navas is your classical old-fashioned winger who is simply brilliant at whipping in crosses. Playing the former Sevilla man down the right flank will give City more width in attack, something that was missing last season.

It is very likely to see Pellegrini give Jovetic the central role Carlos Tevez had occupied before he left for Juve. The youngster is a great passer, knows how to effectively dribble past defenders and is a deadly finisher which means that the Montenegrin comes bearing goals at the Ettihad.

Although he has not played in the Premier League yet, Jovetic could be the best signing this season for City and at the age of 23, will only get better. Stefan Jovetic has immense talent, impossible to challenge. After playing under the command of Cesare Prandelli, the youngster flourished in the Champions League. However, it was under the tutelage of Vincenzo Montella where he showed his true potential.

Despite missing an entire season after rupturing the cruciate ligaments of his knee in the summer of 2010, “JoJo” has shown true grit to come back strong and not let a career threatening injury wind him down.

Although Manchester City fans would be excited at the prospect of seeing Jovetic, it should be kept in mind that the player was often subject to criticism from many pundits in Italy due to his physical frailty and inconsistency. Just like compatriot Mirko Vucinic, Jovetic sometimes disappears during games and that is something he has to work on if he is to realise his true potential.
