A team desperately fighting for survival while sticking to its true values will take on a behemoth that is Manchester City in the FA Cup Final.

Team News

Scott Sinclair has been ruled out of the FA Cup final for Manchester City. Yaya Toure is slightly doubtful as he picked up a knock in the previous weekend. Maynor Figueroa, Ryo Miyaichi, Michael Pollitt, Albert Crusat, Ronnie Stam and Ivan Ramis are all out for Wigan Athletic. Jean Beausejour, a hugely important part of this exciting Wigan side is possibly set to miss out too while Antolin Alcaraz is rated doubtful.

Analysis

This match, in many ways, is one of the most difficult tests of Roberto Martinez’s coaching career. Martinez’s side could very well set to be relegated this season. The loss to Swansea last week hurt in unspeakable ways. Despite leading twice, Wigan went on to lose to Swansea 2-3. Their opponent in the FA Cup final is a team which has nothing to play for this season except this trophy.

City has claimed at least one trophy in each of the past two seasons and they will look to do so again when they travel to Wembley on Saturday. Most believe that Roberto Mancini’s team is capable of achieving more than just one trophy due to the depth of the squad. However, City’s growth from a mid table side in the Premier League to serious title challengers, at least domestically, cannot be undermined.

Wigan has the game to put a few goals past Joe Hart. The Latics’ defence has been horrible sometimes and this is where the match might be settled. A breathless ninety minutes lies in wait for the Wigan faithful and for the City faithful.
