Mario Gotze will be playing for Bayern Munich from next season after the Bavarians announced their decision to trigger the German international’s release clause of his contract at Borussia Dortmund.
Much to the displeasure of many Borussia Dortmund fans, star midfielder, Mario Gotze will be wearing the colours of Bundesliga rivals, Bayern Munich next season onwards. The news was confirmed late Monday night and could not have come at a worse possible time for Jurgen Klopp’s side that will face Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final tonight.

The young Memmingen-born midfielder is arguably one of the best young players in Europe at the moment and it is not surprising that Bayern Munich were willing to pay 37 million euros for a player who has already proved that he is a real star in the making.

Blessed with great speed, technical skill and creativity, Gotze has shown maturity beyond years so early in his career which is why Bayern Munich should consider this transfer as a major coup.

At the age of 21, it is safe to say that world football is yet to see the best of Gotze even though the young German has already achieved so much during his time at Signal Iduna Park. An already formidable Munich line-up boasting the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller and Xherdan Shaqiri will now have another addition in the form of a player who can either play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger.

The signing of the young German international also gives us a glance at Bayern’s incredible future prospects. The club already have in their midst some of the biggest young talents in the world of football, including the likes of Toni Kroos, Xherdan Shaqiri, David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, Holger Badstuber, Javi Martinez and Thomas Muller. Gotze’s signing has further ensured that Bayern can effectively maintain their stature as one of the best sides in the world.

From next season onwards, Pep Guardiola will be at the Munich dugout and it is quite clear that the Spaniard’s arrival at the Allianz Arena has played a huge role in luring the player to the German powerhouse.
However, this move still poses a lot of questions as to how he will fit in and which position he will play on. Another question lingering in the minds of Bayern fans would be on the type of role the player will be given under the former Barcelona manager.

The arrival of Gotze has led to rumours that at least one big player in the midfield will be allowed to leave the club to make room for the young midfielder. It is highly unlikely to see Schweinsteiger leave the club and even more unlikely to see Bayern sell Xherdan Shaqiri who despite not featuring a lot this season, has already shown that he has a great future at the club. Robben’s future had been in question for most part of the year, but his recent form has affirmed that he still remains one of the most threatening players in the continent.

Regardless, under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola,, expect Gotze to further his development. The Spaniard always has time for players with top-drawer technical players which means that Gotze will be given a chance to pair up with Shaqiri.

The German international has an incredible footballing brain and will easily adapt to varying requirements of different attacking midfield positions. Gotze has already done well to full in the role of a deep-lying number “nine-and-a-half” – something that Lionel Messi does so well at Barcelona.

Many people feel that Gotze could be as good as Messi if nurtured correctly. He not only sets up goals, he loves scoring them as well but it is bound to take him quite a few years in order to get anywhere near the level of the Argentine international.

All in all, Bayern Munich have possibly made one of the best signings of the year so far and it will be really interesting to see the player perform under the guidance of a manager who has his way with young players.
