Die Roten have a commanding lead over the Black and Yellow side, who were unable to collect a win this weekend.

The most recent weekend in the Bundesliga gave fans and experts quite a few things to talk about, starting with Bayern's narrow but deserved win against Eintracht Frankfurt. That win gave Julian Nagelsmann's team a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table and in that spirit, to see them getting near one more consecutive title in the German top-flight.

Other interesting results came from Dortmund's game, since they are the other team going toe-to-toe to try and end Bayern's title run, but the real story had Freiburg as its protagonist, since the club returned to the top five with a convincing performance and win against Hertha.

Here's what happened in the Bundesliga this past weekend.

Bundesliga rankings as of February 27

Bayern are now eight points clear from Dortmund in the title race, and it seems that the Black and Yellow may be in need of a miracle to catch up with Die Roten. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen have cemented their spot as the third best team in the Bundesliga, while Leipzig and Freiburg are level at 40 points prior to what will be a busy weekend for both.

Who are the top three goalscorers in the Bundesliga?

Robert Lewandowski kept his eight-goal lead at the top of the Torjägerkanone race over Patrick Schick. Added to that, Erling Haaland's injury also prevented him from playing, which means that the top three strikers in the Bundesliga kept their numbers from last week.

Bundesliga key headlines, stats, and other facts

Diaby follows Lewandowski's footsteps: It has been quite a season for striker Robert Lewandowski, who has set the bar really high for all Bundesliga strikers. Nevertheless, Moussa Diaby has been the only one up to the challenge in 2022, as he has been involved in at least one goal for the past five consecutive games. Added to that, he has scored seven times this year, which is a number that only Lewandowski has improved (9).

Haaland set to make decision about future in meeting with agent: Erling Haaland's future seems to be shaping up now, as the Norwegian striker will reportedly put an end to his stay at Signal Iduna Park when this season comes to an end. Apparently, the footballer has asked his agent, Mino Raiola, to meet with him so he can know first-hand what sort of deals he could get if he joins some of the teams that are pushing for his transfer.

Freiburg add new milestone to record-breaking season: It has been one magical season for Freiburg, and with the club fighting to enter European competitions, their fans have to be proud of their consistency this year. Their accuracy should also be praised, as the Vultures have scored nineteen goals coming from set pieces this year, more than any other Bundesliga team and the highest amount for the team in a single season since 2004.

Top Bundesliga matches: March 4-6, 2022

Bayern München vs Bayer Leverkusen - The league leaders will welcome third-placed Bayer Leverkusen in what should be an entertaining match this weekend. Bayern's desire to extend the lead could face a major roadblock when they collide against Moussa Diaby and his impressive form.

RB Leipzig vs Freiburg - The battle for fourth place will live a decisive weekend when Freiburg visit Leipzig. Both teams will make this clash with 40 points to their name, and losing -or drawing- this clash could see them falling in the race at the hands of Hoffenheim, who is level with these teams on points but their goal difference has prevented them from getting a spot among the top five.

Mainz vs Borussia Dortmund - The Black and Yellow will face one of the last real chances they will get to cut Bayern's lead at the top when they visit Mainz. To do so, the team will require Erling Haaland's presence on the pitch, but with that still in doubt after a few weeks away due to injury, it seems that Marco Rose's team will have to add a little effort to their intent to win this tie.
