Los Blancos were stunned by a left-footed shot by Alex Berenguer in the dying moments of the game, which will extend their title drought in this competition.

Athletic Club have done something that was seemingly impossible a couple of years ago in any Copa del Rey. First, they eliminated Barcelona in the Round of 16, and this time, Marcelino García Toral's footballers have ousted Real Madrid from the competition.

None of this would have been possible withouth the Spanish coach, who almost entirely canceled Real Madrid's options of scoring at San Mamés Stadium and were not able to replicate their previous wins against Los Leones in all competitions.

Just when the game seemed to be heading for extra time, a late but stunning goal by Alex Berenguer shocked Real Madrid and eliminated them from the tournament. The Spanish capital side saw the ref add six minutes of stoppage time to the game, but they were barely able to get the ball near Athletic's pitch.
