Estoril will host first place Benfica Sunday afternoon at the Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota. Will the Canaries be able to slow down the undefeated Aguias?

Benfica will begin the year 2013 with a fixture away to Estoril.Benfica is coming off a very convincing victory over Aves midweek for the Portuguese Cup at the Estadio da Luz. A 6-0 victory saw Oscar Cardozo net a hat-trick in a convincing performance while Spanish international Rodrigo enjoyed a stellar performance as well.

The hosts are coming off a 2-2 draw at home against Porto for the League Cup just before the new year.

Marco Silva's side hasn't managed to win a match in all competitions since they defeated V. Setubal 3-0 at home. Since that victory on the 7th of December, Estoril lost 3-0 away to Braga and also drew V. Setubal at home for the League Cup.

At home, Estoril three victories, one draw and two defeats, while scoring 11 goals and conceding seven. Their two defeats came against Rio Ave and Porto with their three victories coming against Maritimo, Moreirense and V. Setubal.

The visitors have been outstanding this season as they have won 10 and have drawn two. Their opening match against Braga ended in a draw and they also drew against Academica de Coimbra away from home.
Five victories and one draw away from home will be just one of the motivating factors for Jorge Jesus' side heading into this match.

Having Nicolas Gaitan back from injury will be and has been a boost to the squad as of late considering his technical ability. The Argentine is capable of causing problems for any opponent and Estoril's back line will have to be at their best to keep a very strong Benfica offense off the board.

Prediction

Although Estoril is in the seventh position in the Portuguese League almost halfway through the season, they will certainly be under pressure against Benfica on Sunday.

The Aguias play a very offensive style of football and at times, its very difficult for teams to come out playing given the amount of pressure Jorge Jesus' side puts on the opposition.

Sunday against Estoril it will be no different, but the hosts are well aware of that. With Oscar Cardozo in form along with a highly motivated side behind him, Benfica should be able to score a goal or two against Estoril.

The Canaries could well grab a goal on a counter attack given how high the Benfica defense pushes up, but they will need to be sure they don't lose the ball in transition because the Aguias will make them pay for any mistakes.
