The group phase of Europe’s biggest club competition reaches its midway point this week. Two rounds of fixtures went by with 93 goals scored. The matches on October 23 and October 24 promise to offer more excitement.
Several clubs will be looking to go a step closer to reaching the Last 16. FC Porto are on a high having stunned mega rich club PSG the last time out. Country rivals Sporting Braga are also aiming to build on their priceless 2-0 victory away to Galatasaray. Benfica, however, must bounce back from their loss to Barcelona.
The latter will play hosts to Scottish club Celtic while Valencia will be away to BATE on Tuesday. Speaking about Spanish clubs, Real Madrid face a daunting task away to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. Los Blancos have won only one of their last 23 fixtures on German soil.
Remarkably, three of England’s four representatives top their respective group. Champions Chelsea will affront Shakhtard Donetsk and could go three points clear in Group E at the end of the day. Manchester United could extend their perfect record to three games with a win over Sporting Braga.
Arsenal could take a commanding lead over second-placed Schalke 04 in Group B while billionaires Manchester City continue to hunt for their first win in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League.
