The Portuguese enter this quarter-final as favorites over the Czechs, however at this stage advantages on paper mean absolutely nothing.
Both teams have shown good form and recovery despite both countries having lost their opening group match. The Czechs overcame a serious beating in their first match against Russia by 4-1 and were written off early in the competition. Portugal also lost to the Germans, but were unlucky not to have achieved a better result in their opener.
The Portuguese took alot of confidence away from that first game. Their second game against Denmark was approached with a serious determination to win. Their following match was perhaps one of the best performances of any team in the tournament, despite the narrow victory over the Netherlands, Portugal created numerous chances and the final 2-1 scoreline could have been inflated with another 3 or even 4 more goals.
The Czechs are showing what a resilient side they truly are after the beating they took by the Russians. They went on to win their next two matches, having a major role in ousting the co-host Poland and beating the other quarter-finalist Greece. They have reasons to be in a confident mood.
