The Buenos Aires outfit are likely to have a strong 2012 after confirming the signings of two important attacking players.
Federico Insua expressed his delight after joining "a big team, of first rate," during his official presentation as the new midfielder of Velez Sarsfield, which on Monday started with their pre-season training in the Villa Olimpica of Ituzaingo.

Insua, 32, who returned to Argentine soccer from Busarspor of Turkey, categorised Velez as "an incredible institution" and he stated that the objective of his new team is "to fight for everything in play" in reference to the Argentine Clausura championship, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Argentina.

Meanwhile, striker Mauro Obolo, 30, returned to the Buenos Aires outfit from Arsenal for his third stint at the club. Obolo affirmed that his desire is to "give everything back" to Velez, after the opportunities that they have provided him with.

Having arrived from Velez's youth categories, Obolo played for the 1994 Copa Libertadores and world champions between 1999 and 2001 and then again between 2003 and 2004.

Insua, whose career has taken him to such destinations like Spain, Germany, Mexico and Turkey, brought his decision for signing for Velez down to "the quality of the team and the club." As the former Argentine international stated, he chose Velez in favour of "some offers like that of Nacional from Uruguay."

Having reinforced their squad with two high-profile players, much is expected of Velez Sarsfield in 2012. The Argentine Clausura champions reached the semi-finals of both the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana last year, but will be hoping to better those performances with the help of their latest reinforcements.
