Preview

PSG wraps up their UEFA Champions League group-stage campaign this Wednesday, with the French giants visiting Dortmund in a do-or-die showdown. The German giants, meanwhile, enter this fixture with the sole goal of winning the group, thus setting up a juicy encounter.

While Group F has been nail-biting so far due to its uncertainty, one team has secured progression to the round of 16. They are Dortmund, who sealed qualification following their 3-1 win over AC Milan at the San Siro in the previous round.

Goals from Marco Reus, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Karim Adeyemi secured the Bundesliga heavyweights the three points, thus taking their tally to 10 points. Neither Newcastle nor AC Milan, who sit second from last and bottom of the table respectively, can catch Edin Terzić's men.

However, Dortmund has not won the group and will face a stern test from the Ligue 1 powerhouse. A draw would suffice for the Germans but, given their recent form, the impetus is on the hosts to return to winning ways.

Reus and Co. are currently on a three-game winless streak, a run that began with their 1-1 draw with league leaders Leverkusen. Since then, BVB has suffered back-to-back defeats, losing 2-0 to Stuttgart to crash out of the DFB Pokal round of 16 before going 3-2 down at home to RB Leipzig.

Additionally, Dortmund locked horns with PSG on the opening day and suffered a frustrating 2-0 loss at the Parc des Princes, which means there will be a desire for revenge over the traveling team.

However, as mentioned earlier, this is a do-or-die fixture for the Ligue 1 champions due to one simple reason: while PSG's fate is in their own hands, unlike Dortmund, they are yet to qualify for the round of 16.

Luis Enrique's men are on seven points, with their most recent point coming via a controversial manner, drawing 1-1 at home to PSG courtesy of a debatable penalty. Kylian Mbappe buried that spot kick with ease, and as a result, Les Parisiens are in the driving seat, not the Magpies.

This means a win on Wednesday will secure progression irrespective of what happens in the other game. Likewise, victory at the Signal Iduna Park will secure PSG a top-spot finish ahead of Dortmund.

A draw would suffice so long as Newcastle fails to beat AC Milan. Furthermore, Mbappe and Co. can get away with a defeat so long as the other fixture ends in a draw. The latter two scenarios, however, cannot be relied upon, meaning Enrique's men will enter the field with the sole goal of beating BVB.

Fortunately, PSG is on a five-game unbeaten streak and has suffered only one defeat in their last 11 outings — that loss came at the San Siro against AC Milan. Form favors the visitors and while they do not have the home advantage, Mbappe and Co. have a lot more reason to go to war on Wednesday.

Team news

Dortmund: Emre Can is sadly suspended for this game after accumulating three yellow cards. Felix Nmecha, meanwhile, is sidelined while Marcel Sabitzer is facing a race against the clock to recover, thus leaving the club in a sticky situation. Julian Ryerson, Youssoufa Moukoko, Sebastien Haller, and Julien Duranville are all unavailable due to injuries but Marius Wolf could be in contention.

PSG: Ousmane Dembele is suspended for this game as well, meaning Bradley Barcola, whose wastefulness in front of goal nearly cost the team against Newcastle, could deputize. Question marks linger over Warren Zaire-Emery but the highly-rated French midfielder could feature. Nuno Mendes, Presnel Kimpembe, Fabian Ruiz, Keylor Navas, and Sergio Rico are all unavailable.
