The final stage of the Mexican tournament continues on Wednesday and Thursday, this time with the first leg of the semi-finals in what should be an electric start of the final four.
The previous stage delivered some surprises for fans, starting with the elimination of No.2 seed Monterrey, who were unable to turn things around at home. The other major surprise came with Pumas UNAM, who were able to revert a one-nil loss in the first leg to go back home and win their tie against Chivas with an emphatic 3-0 score.
Now, the stage is set for two interesting ties featuring two of the most winning teams in Liga MX: América and Tigres. América have dominated the league for quite a bit of time, while Tigres and their status as defending champions speaks volumes of their capabilities. Since both teams will host the second legs, both are considered favorites to reach the final, but if Liga MX has taught us anything, is that there is no shortage of surprises when the Liguilla is in play.

Pumas UNAM vs Tigres UANL - The second semi-final clash will feature two in-form teams, with Pumas returning to a semi-final for the first time since 2021 and trying to end a ten-year drought without a title. On the other hand, the defending champions hardly broke a sweat to defeat Puebla at home, but the most recent game at Pumas' Estadio Universitario gives them reasons to believe they can take the lead for the return leg. Meanwhile, Tigres return to a semi-final tie after just six months, with the massive difference of having to host the return leg and not having to fight to come from behind. To top it all, André-Pierre Gignac is still in top form for the team in blue and gold, which could be enough to shift things their way and see them reach another title series.
