Preview

Matchday 3 in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League is here, with record winners Real Madrid taking to the field on Tuesday. The Spanish giants will hit the road in their third European game of the campaign, taking on Sporting Braga in an interesting 3 p.m. ET showdown.

The Portuguese outfit will be tasked with the difficult job of overcoming the kings of Europe. With 14 UEFA Champions League titles to their name, Real Madrid won't be an easy opponent for Sporting Braga.

However, Os Arcebispos enter this game with confidence following their recent results, the most obvious being their dramatic victory over Union Berlin in their last UEFA Champions League fixture. Artur Jorge's men took on the Bundesliga outfit and despite falling 2-0 behind inside the first 40 minutes, the Primeira Liga heavyweights staged a dramatic comeback victory.

Sikou Niakate pulled one back just before the break while Bruma and Andre Costa scored twice in the second half, with the winner coming in the fourth minute of stoppage time. As a result, this has taken Braga to third, level on points with second-placed Napoli.

Furthermore, the hosts are on a five-game winning streak across all competitions, which slightly trumps Real Madrid's form. Can the Portuguese outfit translate this into an iconic win over Los Blancos?

Real Madrid currently boast a perfect record in the UEFA Champions League but have won back-to-back games by the slightest of margins. Tuesday's showdown should allow them to correct this.

The Spanish giants kicked things off with a clash against Union Berlin, with Jude Bellingham scoring the one and only goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure his team the three points. After that came the highly-anticipated showdown with Napoli, with the Merengues triumphing by a one-goal margin once more, this time beating the Serie A champions 3-2.

An Alex Meret own goal sealed the win for Ancelotti's side but there have been a few bumps along the road, mainly domestically, with Bellingham and Co. having lost a game and drawn another in 10 La Liga outings. The one stalemate came in their most recent fixture, drawing 1-1 away to Sevilla.

However, the UEFA Champions League is where Real Madrid come alive. Their performance at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium was uninspiring but expect the 14-time European champions to put on a show on Tuesday.
