Chelsea may not find any positives in keeping Andre Villas-Boas much longer as head coach. Signs confirm that the time has come for the Blues to part company with the ex-Porto manager.
Wednesday night’s stunning defeat against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League should serve as the final alert. Andre Villas-Boas’ place is certainly not at Stamford Bridge. Since the day he officially joined Chelsea, the challenge of coping with the huge difference between managing FC Porto and Chelsea or Portuguese football and English football began.

But now, Chelsea are also facing the challenge of making the perfect chance to save the club from sinking. Back in October, QPR boss Neil Warnock, shared interested comments related to Andre’s career under Roman Abramovich.

“He can be their version of Sir Alex, and the rest,” Warnock declared according to the Daily Mail. Knowing that Villas-Boas is Chelsea’s fifth coach in four years, the QPR man added:

“I think they’ve looked at the mistakes they’ve made over the years and thought let’s go for somebody long-term.

“I know people say he’ll get the sack if they don’t win the league or Champions League but I don’t think he will.

“I think they’ve seen what Sir Alex Ferguson has done and seen what stability has done with Arsene Wenger.

“I think Chelsea need that and where better to get it than the best young manager in the world. That stability is the only thing missing from Chelsea.”

Chelsea definitely lack stability but this doesn’t confirm that Andre Villas-Boas is the right man for the long-term job. Fans are calling for his head and they might be just right. Chelsea’s current situation isn’t very promising. Their major problem seems to be the poor connection between Villas-Boas and the players.

Andre is not necessarily a bad coach; his achievements with giants Porto prove that he is potentially very good. You cannot put a 84.48 winning percentage in 58 games with the Dragons down to luck. The truth may be that he just isn’t the right man for Roman Abramovich’s team.

Chelsea have a rather old squad and the young age of Andre Villas-Boas is perhaps not helping the cause of respect in the dressing room. Bad moments happen to everyone. The question here is whether AVB has this special thing to inject mental energy in his squad.

Time is running fast and Chelsea must react or suffer the consequences. Their Champions League hopes are hanging from a thread and the ultimate group stage game against in-form Valencia will be like a final.

Things aren’t going right in the league either. How many more chances does Andre Villas-Boas need after losing 3-1 to Manchester United, 5-3 to Arsenal and 2-1 to Liverpool? The 34-year-old Portuguese man has won only 53% of his matches at Chelsea thus far.

However, former Blue coach Guus Hiddink has made himself available and he’s just around the corner. Hiddink enjoyed his best ever winning percentage record during his time at the Bridge and he left a good impression before departing. Chelsea must not worry about falling into unsafe hands should they sack Andre Villas-Boas...
